Without wanting to piss on the biscuits, I don't buy the idea of there being an exact set amount for transfers in this or any window, because that's not the way we handle our finances. If you've taken the time to read the very interesting writings of Edmonton, and I think also perhaps whiskah? you'll have learned that we don't budget for transfers in that way - we spread payments over a number of years, and with different incentives built in, and thus we adjust our budget going forward as those players' values rise or are sold on and money is recouped. It's why Daniel Levy is so much more willing to invest big money in a young player with potential than an established star - he's essentially borrowing money secured against the value or likely increasing value of the player, or speculating to accumulate.
While I'm far from a financial expert - one look at my spiralling overdraft would tell you that - I think this is the reason that we'd never have a set budget for a window - rather each case would be judged against its merits and the likely increase in value over future years of the asset we're purchasing.

I am guessing we would have a ceiling though? an amount we wouldn't go past, otherwise you may as well go buy a Ferrari on that overdraft..

Which is exactly what alot of the ITKs don't understand when they deliver their info. If an ITK ever mentions the word "warchest" I pretty much ignore them from then on. Still it's all good for a bit of gossip.

Big difference between a "warchest" and an amount we are willing to commit to the pot though.

We should give some cred to the ITK's who reported on Chadli. Gards with update 119 is the first one I can see.

What names from the past are big enough to sponsor the stadium?
HP is surely "present", autonomy are now HP, Holsten don't do much in the UK any more...
Pony?

The - new signing but not a new face - bit could also just be to stress that it isn't the signing of a person, but rather the signing of a brand/company/sponsor.

Yeah, I was just using warchest as taking it even further. £50m is such an arbitrary amount, like ohwhenthespurs said, Levy's economic model is so much more complicated than that, especially with the stadium commitments.
