So rumours this morning that Ade, Dembele and Stambouli will be heading out for about £14m, and Berahino and Suarez will be coming in for about £23m.

That's not too shabby business, as we've still got Soldado, Chirches and Lennon left to fund a second forward and balance the books.

I'm sure a few ITKs have said that Dembele will only be leaving if we get big money for him.

Bentaleb's case is extremely rare though, and is hardly something for any club to rely on for future introductions, including for Oduwa and especially for the expectation of "player than can make a difference to the first team."

The point isn't to advocate for Moses, it's to point out that we're light at winger, which we've been now for several seasons. We cannot allow this problem to persist yet again.

No-one is saying for oduwa to come and make a difference to the first team. He would be third choice.

That's a fusion reference in the context, not a direct quote, Baz. It's saying "if you're saying the criteria is 'players that can make a difference to the first team,' then in fact we only currently have three." While I do certainly hope to see Oduwa included this term, that count is very light indeed. We have lacked balance and depth at winger for too long recently, and expecting another "Bentaleb" in Oduwa is too much, and frankly isn't even fair to the young player. He can be included, but we cannot forego another winger addition on his account, especially as we are light in the positions anyway.

In truth, I would suspect we'd probably loan Oduwa out again this term to a higher league.

Do the math. You cannot have 3 senior players for each position. 3x 11 = 33. We are only allowed a squad of 25. So some of those 3rd choices will have to be u21's.

City probably gave the kid a 5 year deal on 50k a week. Even if he break his leg and never play football again he is still set up for life when signing for City, so i can see the appeal.

Chances are he wont see many first team opportunities, but the kid gonna be loaded. Thats just modern football.
Yep true if it works great if it doesn't lets see if the bench is adequate compensation, 50k a week ? With all sorts of caveats on the deal maybe but not straight up. Looking at football as a career there is more to it surely than an 18 year old pay day? This also seems to me to be pervasive attitudein this country take the money and fuck the future and the consequences that's surely what parents are there for to look at a bigger longer term future for their kids. Anyway I guess my views on this are a little old fashioned so I'll move along

I know what you mean, PT, but Dalglish was given a load of money to build his Blackburn team. Might not seem a lot now but breaking the British transfer record with a £5M bid for Chris Sutton and buying Alan Shearer for £3.5M were seen as massive deals at the time.

Pretty much the man city / Chelsea of their day, although the big signings stopped and they plummeted.

Where on earth did I propose having three players for each position? In fact, if you were doing your own math correctly (and reading correctly), you'll see I have advocated at least two for each position, and then rounding out the rest with youth. That's 22 senior players, give or take where youth fills the spots anyway (such as Pritch behind Eriksen).

So I agree, some of those 3rd choices will have to be youth, but that means we'll have to buy a player for LW, and it just so happens to be the case as evidenced by how many wingers we've been linked with.

Saido is a good lad who made a couple of mistakes because he lacked decent guidance (drink driving etc). Rumours of a general bad attitude are greatly exaggerated. He simply had an agent who seems to permanently want to move his players in order to maximise his commission and so uses his players as pawns to make that happen (advises them to adopt bad behaviour) He now has new representation.

Sorry mate rush read your post. For lw i see us having chadli, pritchard and possibly berahino. With oduwa as back up. That should be enough.

Am getting nervy about this window..

Berahino
Moses
McCarthy

Whilst they are all good players, I would honestly rather use

Oduwa
Onomah
Carrol
Pritchard

I don't see berahino being more effective on the left than chadli and don't see him as a solo 9. They are all decent players, McCarthy especially but...nah not for me. Restructuring the scouting process to come up with these names seems pointless. I hope pochettino has the nous to spot players that are potentially real top 4 quality, those players are Southampton level quality really. I don't see why we just didn't buy Defoe back if we're going for berahino...
