When Jamie Slabber set up a goal on his debut for Tottenham as an 18-year-old, few people could have predicted the fall from grace that would follow.

It's funny how things turn out. I remember banging on about this guy, 'give him more game time', where's Slabber etc.

I used to say the same about Mabizela (I called them Mabz and Slabz).

Meanwhile I'm the same guy who derided a friend for saying we should play Kane more, or criticised the unnecessary signing of Dele Alli because "we already have Mason and Bentaleb"

Shows what I know (although I still think Slabber could have had a big career)

Off topic, but the Caulker interview in the Guardian should be e-mailed to every "up and coming" prospect who arrives financially before delivering the goods.

Tragic reading indeed.

Tragic indeed although more about the point that mental health issues can affect anyone independent of their financial status.

Glad to read he is turning things around for the better. Always rated him and fancied him as the next Ledley at one point.

I always think about lads such as GNK, Kevin prince Boateng, Phil Ifil, Kyle Naughton, Lewis Holtby and all those youngsters who have all this pressure piled on them. When do we stop as supporters? When do we say, this kid should be given time. All this money is simply ruining these young men. They earn more in a week than we do in a year or two - it's sickening.
Seeing as they are mostly uneducated or poorly educated, they have an army of leeches around them "advising" on what is the "best course of action"
A bit chaotic I know, but it's criminal that the football world knows about it but tolerates it nontheless. "What you do in your own time is up to you"? An 18 year-old boy? Give me a break.

One thing this highlights is the danger of changing managers. He was backed by Hoddle but not by the guys who came after. I'm hoping Poch will stay a very long time and can manage players from the youth ranks to the first team. It would be nice to be the club with a plan.

Huddle seemed reluctant to let any of our youngsters go. By the time he left our development squad had a cast of thousands.
