I would like to see Roles. From the clips and the description by those who frequent youth matches, I imagine he is a modern day Martin Peters.
A good mate of mine managed his team as a kid and said he is absolute class - head and shoulders above everyone (obviously that was years ago and players develop differently). Lots on here seem very surprised Skipp is ahead of him in the pecking order, anyone have any insight as to why?

i don't think you'd find any serious poster on here who is "surprised" by that, anyone who does think that way either has no clue about either player or are letting skipp's few 1st team appearances influence their judgment. as i said before though it's futile even talking about them in terms of either/or as they are completely different players, skipp is a dier or a winks(depending on how you view him) whilst roles is a dele. skipp has played up an age group pretty much his entire youth career and has excelled at every level. roles has always had ability but even as recently as the start of this season still wasn't really an established starter. it's only as the season has progressed that he's started to hit the same comparable heights that skipp was hitting at two or three years younger than what jack is now, as you rightly say though players develop at different rates so maybe roles will end up being a bit of a late bloomer.

Cheers for this mate.

I dont tend to follow the youth teams too much so this is good to know and makes a whole lot of sense. I had no idea Skipp had always played up a year, but it’s obvious he’s highly rated to be in the first team squad at such a young age.

I think you’re also spot on re people’s judgement being clouded by first team performances.

Fingers crossed he is able to fulfil his potential with us.

The manager needs to start prioritizing attacking minded academy players. We are in desperate need of bench options who can offer something different and while Skipp is the long term first team prospect I'd rather sacrifice him for Roles in the remaining games only in the sense the latter can offer something in the final third. We had seven defensive minded players on the pitch chasing a game with two lumps up front ffs.

Was a good game yesterday. I'll do a player by player summary which might be useful as I'm sure the majority would not have heard let alone seen of those that played yesterday. We were as you'd expect the much better team controlling the game but what I really liked yesterday is that I've spoken about this age group before, but it was the players that I either haven't seen (much of)and the ones that I've hyped slightly less than others in the past that really impressed me.

Maguire - Seems to have become the number one for this age group over Hayton. Big kid and made a couple of good saves low down yesterday. Represented NI u16s recently I believe

Turner (LB) - Usually an attacker from what I've seen before. He looked very comfortable on the ball. Seen a few times now, looks a handy player, he was out of position so didn't standout but again it was a one-off g. He is obviously trusted in different roles.

Dorrington (CB:u14) - Liked the look of him. We do really have a knack of producing CBs, or defenders in generally. Made some well timed tackles and he stepped out with the ball on more than one occasion attacking the space when he could.

Okoh (CB) - He was at CB then moved into CM. I think he'll be a very useful player and seems to be a really good find. Strong and sensible on the ball. I guess the obvious comparison would be Wanyamaish in style when he went into CM. There were times where he could have passed forward more but good effort.

Watt (RB) - I've spoken about him before. He, imo, was easily the best player on the park. I've only seen him play CB but at RB he caused all sorts of problems. Was literally like a game to him. His dribbling was good but not outstanding but it was as though he knew he was better than everyone so just played with confidence. He then moved back to CB and again it all looked very natural for him twisting and turning out of everything. He created two of our goals.

Abdel-Salam (CM) - first time hearing of this kid and first time seeing him. He had a good game, nothing to really make you stand out. Seemed to move the ball along nicely. Really big.

Haysman (CM) - I'll be careful how I write this. As this isn't meant to be critical. When I first saw this kid what caught my eye was his wandlike left foot and being creative from deep and picking passes. Running games essentially. The last games I've had available to watch he has appeared to be more of a passenger. I could just be watching at the wrong moment but I did expect more. He does appear to be another play at my own pace type of player and it can come across as though he isn't trying but I think the talent is still there to see. The fact England are still monitoring says a lot. And in saying all of this he still grabbed a goal and helped control the midfield, which I think shows his level. As despite not appearing to have a great game he still looked like one of the better players on the field and still affected it. I should remember he is young, I see him very rarely so don't know how he plays all the time and also he is growing. Still looking forward to seeing a lot more of him from what I have seen previously plus the fact he still looks good while not standing out.

Mathurin (LW) - He has grown to be one of the more developed kids on the field. Constant threat at LW. As expected the final ball at this level can breakdown good attacks but he is very slick with his feet and very natural on the ball. He filled in as a striker very well too and the timing of his run to finish the cross was excellent. One of the best on the park yesterday

Bloxham (CAM:u14) - Seen this name about for ages but never seen him play. He was easily the smallest kid on the field today. Incredible how tiny he is. And in the first half at least he was our 2nd best player. Very impressed with how he found space and linked up with the other attackers with one touch passing and he was trying to be creative. Also he appears to be a little bit of a terrier, out muscled by their CM who had long legs in comparison but tried to keep up with him on the counters and put in challenges.

Cassanova (RW) - He's grown a bit. Had a decent game, I think like Haysman he is a player that even when they're not having a great game they will still do well as they have ability. He didn't do anything of note yesterday but he did look commanding. Still not sure what type of player he is. Had him down as a holder but clear he is senior enough, good enough and trusted to be an allrounder and fill in wherever. Moved to LW second half and moved central on occasions.

Donley (CF:u14) - I think there is potential in Donley. He will be frustrated at having 2 great chances to score but not taking them. I think they were both headers if I remember. He has a good shot on him from what I've seen before, and he looks like a striker. Gets involved with the buildup which is good but I feel he probably dropped too deep a lot of the time. Represented NI recently I think

Subs
Hayton (GK) - Didn't have a lot to do expect in the first minute of the 2nd half. He made a great save to stop the man through on goal making himself big but unfortunately the rebound fell to their man who finished. Also in the 90th min somehow someone got through and he rushed out bravely again to force the striker to over hit the lob. He also claimed well from the crosses under pressure.

Piesold (CM:u14) - I did like the look of him. Seemed to have very good vision and passing execution. A couple of times he split the defence from deep which is very impressive and he joined in the attacks well. Seems to be a good worker off the ball and tried to turn forward on receiving it wherever possible. Facially and sizewise he looks a lot like George Marsh from a distance, especially at the same age. Won a number of POTT awards in the past so seems a really good prospect.

Torraj (CAM) - He was excellent when he came on. Really started to make things happen. He moved out to the LW and worked well with Hudson allowing Cassanova to move in on some occasions. And it's from there he got his assist. But the play between Torraj, Bloxham and Piesold was really great to watch when they got going they seemed to have a good understanding. He's been training with Albania u15s recently I believe.

Hudson (LB) - Came on and was a threat down the left making over lapping runs and trying to get crosses in. As above him and Torraj worked really well together as they've no doubt played loads together on that side. In fact it was at the Riga Cup where they both impressed me on the left.

Mcknight (RB:u14) - I thought he had a good game. The way he twisted and turned out of trouble and ran with the ball reminded me of KWP. Looked very cool and easy for him on that side even when he was put under pressure

For MK Dons, their no.8 Holmes was their best player imo. I was going to say we should sign him but that'd be pointless. He would be best staying there and developing. He would have fitted in well with our team.

Overall I am very pleased after yesterday. Between the u15s and u14s we have a strong two groups it appears. This team were missing Hackett, and Bryan-Waugh (u14) who are with England u15s and Scarlett who would have been with England but is injured. The u14s also have Williams, Brown and others who play up a lot to make for what appears to be another strong age group. Said before but it's a big shame we lost Forson as these guys could've been an FAYC winning team with him in the future. He wouldn't have played yesterday as he's also with England but still. In saying that I was gutted Madueke left but others have stepped up for the u18s so I hope we find another replacement for him.

Do we really have a player called Piesold ? how appropriate for the new stadium. Great review thanks. Saw the picture I’m guessing Bloxham was one at front that looks about 10.

We're talking about the pic on the previous page and the tiny tot second from the left in the front row? I'd have gone with "looks about 6"... And fair play to him, he's obviously quite a player if he's able to perform against lads twice his size.

Are you sure Bryan-Waugh is Under-14? I thought it was Watt out of the two CBs who played up an age-group for England Under-16s?

Thanks and Yes

I'd seen him in pictures but never knew who he was. Easily one of the smallest players I've seen. I'm trying to remember when Thorpe joined but he was also very small.

Are you sure Bryan-Waugh is Under-14? I thought it was Watt out of the two CBs who played up an age-group for England Under-16s?

So Watt is a late 03 born, so qualifies for England u16s but is a club u15.

Bryan-Waugh iirc is a late 04 born so qualifies for England u15s but is a club u14

I've seen DOBs for both somewhere before. After yesterday I'm surprised that Watt wasn't called up recently for the u16s. I know it's another good age group but as usual I know more about the midfield and attack than I do the defence so not sure if they are really strong in that area or not.
