Hopefully Man. City will run away with the title .. The league is whatever for me now, still interesting to see what we can do in the 3 other competitions.

After the City game in November, we haven't won back to back league games. Shocking.

Really don't see us fighting for top 4 now, especially if Kane is injured. I mean the next 3 league fixtures don't look too bad but the run we are on, I don't see us picking up more than 4 points.

It’s not shocking really though is it. Despite some bright performances here and there, we have been largely poor in a lot of games. We struggle to create consistently, and our good defensive performances have been through luck more than talent.

With the guy who’s been basically carrying the team on his shoulders now injured, I really don’t hold out much hope for top six, let alone top four.

So at the mid-point of the season we're exactly where we finished the last (in the League) but our cup form is much improved.
Positives - Cup form, PEH, Reggie, Ndombele, defensive records (last night notwithstanding!)
Negatives - Over-reliance on Kane & Sonny in attack, Dele situation, gap to Top-4 is growing and others look stronger (Wham & Everton in particular).
Not really sure how to feel about our progress to be honest!?

We look far away from the likes of Leicester and Manchester United at the moment.

Top 4 will be tough....

I’m perhaps more optimistic than some of the comments on here. I think Man City will run away with it now but all of Man Utd, Liverpool, Leicester and us have shown indifferent form and so I think we’ll all be in the mix for the other 3 top four places at the end of the season. Maybe one more of Everton, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Arsenal sneak up there too. I’m assuming the hammers will mean revert to mid table at some point. Of course if Kane is out for the season or something unfortunate like that then it’s game over for top four with the way we play. If we get lucky draws then we might be able to get a CL place through the EL route as well.

Exactly. I actually think losing last night made little difference to things because of the results the day before (obviously winning would have been better).

But I actually think the manner of the defeat, the performance and Kane being injured has had more of a detrimental effect than the result.

Sounds obvious but we need to dust ourselves down and make sure we win the next game.

Sorry, but the sunny ‘we can do it guys’ optimism is pretty amusing when considered in light of the utter desolation of last night.
I will NEVER apologize for trying to find any and all positives. Especially when that post was from days before last night. That was before any injuries, the lineup, the formation, Kane going off.

I'm not being miserable over something I cannot control. And I will not apologise for it. People hate those who want to positive about anything and that REALLY fucks me off. I wasn't even positive after the game. I was positive beforehand and you decided you didn't like that and thought it would be funny to pick up on it.

I've seen people say their mental health gets seriously affected by a football club. I've been there, but when you get THAT upset and it happens a lot it might be time to remove yourself emotionally and realise you can't control ANYTHING the club does. So no point getting your knickers in a twist over it.

Points-wise we still have a good chance of making the top 4. We are 6 and a game in hand behind 3rd place Leicester, who are hardly infallible. We are only 4 and a game in hand behind 4th place Liverpool, in spite of last night's defeat. However we're in really poor form at the moment and those points gaps could easily grow over the next few weeks.

My feeling is we'll probably finish somewhere around where are now- between 5th-8th. Competing with Everton, Chelsea and Arsenal for those places and maybe someone like Leicester if they hit a bad run of form. Although we might finish even lower if we go far in the EL.

Ok, we’re all adults here. If you can’t support the club without feeling the need to be pathologically positive despite obvious signs of decay on the pitch, that’s on you.

Most people are quite capable of supporting their team while also acknowledging that we’re actually a bit shit.

You want an argument just for the sake it. I never said we were not shit. You got the wrong impression from a post that was actually meant to be about the fans mentality of being negative 100% of the time. It's fine, you can't deal with someone wanting to be even a little bit positive going into any match. You want to be miserable 24/7 about Spurs, that's your problem. But don't have a go at anyone that is trying their best to be positive about anything during these times. Even football.

I'm stopping here. Have a nice day.

Ok, I respect your need to be postive. Personally, I'm interested in how things really are, and I come to this forum to discuss them. Right now, the squad is underperforming, and the football we play is frequently awful. I don't think that pointing that out, and being a bit annoyed about it, constitutes being 'miserable 24/7 about Spurs'. That's just being a supporter who wants to see his team do well, and is frustrated that we've tied our fortunes to a manager who isn't fit for the job.

Yes I understand how things are. But I cannot control them.

Should the team do better? Absolutely. Do I want them to do better after the years of bullying I got for being Spur? Damn straight. Was I annoyed when the FT whistle went? Yes.

The manager being hired isn't something we can control though is it? Some may choose to protest, but that does nothing. You can discuss the club, that's why I'm here as well. I'm just saying you don't like anyone being positive, even when they were BEFORE a match. You can criticise the performance after a game. But don't you ever have a go at someone who wanted to be positive about something after the 12 months he has had. If you haven't read my thread in general chat, then I suggest you do so. Explains it perfectly well. SC is an escape for me. But then all I see is negativity and people like you calling out anyone who is remotely positive.

I'm not going to apologise for trying to be positive going into any match, when personally I don't have a whole lot to be positive about.

Stop replying. Leave it at this.

I think Liverpool will go on another bad run now as they look weak if any team actually has a go at them. Leicester look much better than us atm but they will still drop points and I’m still not convinced by Man Utd. Unfortunately, Arse have hit form and could go above us soon if we don’t pull our finger out and Everton have a game in hand! All in all I have no idea what will happen anymore.

I am very much of the opinion of using the league games for the rest of this season to test players and formations etc. Our priority has to be the cups. We’re not good enough / far too inconsistent to mount a serious push for the title and IMO the top 4 so let’s give ourselves the best possible chance of a cup success.

Love the way the thread title includes ‘or even 6th...’ as though that possibility was one barely worth our consideration. Think the thread title was composed in happier days...

Lowest point returns at this stake since the 08/09 season. With this squad it simply isn't good enough.

Caveat that with the likelihood most 'top 6' teams are probably down on their average.

We could probably still shithouse 4th if we focused solely on the league but still being in 4 competitions its probably a couple of trophies or bust for us this season

Win our game in hand and we're a point off the top four.
