@JCRD So you honestly think we'll be battling relegation after one game!! Fuck me even West ham fans are more optimistic than you.

Dude I'm joking... Course not.. Im actually more considered in the serious threads...

But you know, the table doesn't lie right now...

That was very very very disheartening

I totally agree - I'm more disheartened by the fact that last season, near the end we actually started to look like we were understanding how to play the way JM wants us to play. Now I'm more concerned that JM will just end up being the same old Jose that led to him being dumped by UTD and Chelksi. There were a lot of issues before he came, now I'm worried Levy has just made even more problems for the club by getting him on board and all we can do is watch it through our hands over our faces.

Don’t fret. Despite the loss, we are still out of the bottom three slots. Phew!

If we had any strategy to attack then I would be considerably more optimistic, but after around thirty games under Mourinho we seem to have none.

We set up with five or six defensive players and our game plan is to defend in a low block and score on the counter-attack. That's fine (although terrible to watch) if we have a plan for how to counter-attack; but we don't. The strategy seems to be to simply get the ball upfield asap and hope that our forwards can conjure something up. It will work sometimes because we have very good forwards, but it can't work consistently; and it certainly won't work if the opposition score first and shut up shop.

If we had a way to play when we have the ball I'd say that we were nailed on for top six and had a good chance of top four. In the absence of that, I'm going for 7th-12th.

I’ve said all summer I think we will get top four and I stand by that. But only if we get the players in we need. It’s anyone’s guess whether that will happen though.

Too many variables to make an accurate prediction. Will Tanguy come good? Will LoCelso push on and hit the ground running? They are the key, in my opinion, in the difference between pushing for 4th and finishing 7th.

It's all doom and gloom until they win a couple of games though. Will be a freaky start as it is still weird, with no fans etc etc. And the impact of covid. Hard to judge how that will impact mindsets and performance ongoing.

Having slept on it I’m less depressed about yesterday’s result and performance. There were very obvious fitness issues that impacted our performance. Winks, Hojbjerg, Doherty, and Ndombele were all a couple of games away from fitness imo. The Sissoko sub was a mistake, but he obviously didn’t believe NDombele would last 45 minutes and we needed more bodies in midfield.

None of that excuses a really lazy performance from the players, or the various mistakes that have led to some players not getting a preseason (allowing any of them to go abroad this summer was a huge mistake imo)

But all that aside we aren’t suddenly as bad as we were yesterday and I’m sure once we have the likes of Lo Celso and NDombele fit we will suddenly look a lot better.

Everton didn’t exactly play like Brazil either and were fairly lucky to get a goal from a dodgy set piece. Doherty and Dele came close for us and on another day we could have played that shite and still won.

The Sky isn’t falling, yet.

Wanna get something of my chest...

If we look at the past 365 days...which player we had in first 16 has improved since? I can barely name names. But i can name quite a few that has either stagnated or took a few points off thier fancy fifa cards.

We are way behind now. No doubt.

Amongst many things which annoy me is that Everton, a team which I have a bit of time for as they seem rather like us in several ways, have gone out and bought 3 key players with virtually no fuss at reasonable cost and put them all straight into the fisrt team where they looked absolutely settled and part of the project. Compare to us, every transfer is a drama including those which never happen and we generally have to endure months of injuries, mysterious absences, adapting to the league/country etc etc.
And then we have the Jose excuses- no pre -season, Covid, Internationals. Well yes, but apply that to virtually everyone else.
And now are striker links- who said there would be no pantomime season this year. A different unknown name is thrown into the mix every day. Clearly, we do not have a specific target as such. Just the usual list of dubious candidates. Why we just didn't match Newcastle's bid for Wilson, I don't know although I suspect he preferred being first choice.

7th-12th. We're regressing at a alarming rate under this dinosaur and well coached teams have long figured out his mid 2000's game plan...

Not going to disagree with what you’re saying but a small snippet has to be the lack of quality in the middle of the park. I would imagine wanyama and Dembele occupied a lot of the opposing teams thoughts , but I doubt they are losing any sleep over winks and sissoko

"Took a few points off their fifa cards"

The state of this site right now after one match... Absolutely embarrassing.

Why am I seeing so many people go on about our short pre season??? As if ours was some how shorter than other teams ?

Anyway 7th - 12th is my vote. And judging on yesterday's showing and seeing some of the other teams it will be closer to 12th.

That is just a "reference". None of our players has made an significant improvement as a player for the past year. Fact.
