This is so different to how the first 3 deals were done. We were told that we weren’t messing the other side around, put a very reasonable deal on the table and stuck to it - take it or leave it. But the above harks back to the “Transfer Committee” shenanigans 🤦🏽‍♂️
Trix did also say before the Maddison deal that he wasn't confident we'd get it done.

Ok maybe I was a little ott last night so I'll try to clarify without saying too much and getting anyone in trouble.

The VdV deal isn't officially off, but we've managed to upset a few people at the last minute once again.

Get everything agreed, and then not be happy with the way the deal is shaped. Its once again trying to get that extra last minute win on a deal we have already got the win on. We've been here numerous times before and we know from past experience we are not worried to walk away for things like this and worse someone else swoops in or the player just has enough of the pissing about.

As I say maybe a bit ott last night, however I'm now fully aware things haven't changed which is why I posted what I did.
Think it's fair what you said though, given it looks like we're repeating past mistakes

Here we go again. It’s times like this where I would love for the BSoDL to queue the theme from curb your enthusiasm.

I’m gonna choose to mentally wait until the end of the windows before feeling anything is set in stone, but it’s frustrating that we have two suitable targets who fit our criteria for a glaring hole.

That's absolutely perfect sense. We've far too many players on our books and Ange has to have time to asses the "suspect" players to see of they can be turned round or need to be sold or loaned out. Only then will the club know (a) what their needs are and (b) how much money that have to spend.

Far too many impatient posters on here.
I wouldn’t say they are impatient. We’ve had 3 managers assess some of these players.

The thought of starting another season with;
Dier
Davies
Sanchez

Amongst the starting 11 is truly awful. 1 at best is a squad player. Can completely accept that we can’t shift everyone, but a blind man on a galloping horse can see we need 2 new CBs and should have been the first signings, with options discussed and agreed when offering the managers job.

Wakes up to Daniel Levy’s still a **** shocker. I’d already cancelled mine and the kids memberships, haven’t bought them new kits or merchandise for years .& will continue that stance until he’s gone. I was considering taking my 3 teenagers to the Kiev friendly as it’s for a good cause but fuck him, bean counting loser. It’s compounded by them lot up the road backing Lego head. 1 trophy in 20 years and counting, messed up a once in a lifetime talent & yet he still has backers in our support base! Unbelievable, how people still defend that clown Levy baffles me. Thanks for the itk anyway gents

"Back the manager, only if he does what I want...."

Ange has decided to take these players to oz. I doubt he has been pressured to do so.

Or he’s taken them because we haven’t signed anyone, due to someone messing about with deal structures again?

We both can come up with narratives..

The fact remains, we need new CBs. Ange isn’t a miracle worker and suddenly going to get our current crop working, that 3 managers failed to do.

I’m not gonna panic… Ange has only been here a COUPLE weeks and rightly wants/needs to assess the players that we already have, which I’m fully on board with.
Everyone knows we need better defenders and I’m confident we’ll get one or two once Ange has assessed the squad.
I’m also giving him at least 2-4 transfer windows to shape the squad he requires, as it’s unrealistic to simply expect/demand wholesale changes within the first month or two of his tenure.

I honestly dread to think what would happen if Kane did end up leaving this window. I’d have 0 faith we would bring anyone even semi decent as the kind of player we would need would not come cheap.

I did say we could've waited til later in window starting with Forster wouldn't have been the end of the world CB has been priority number 1 for 2 seasons gong into the 3rd
This is the same Forster who couln't get on the plane to Australia because he's carrying a back injury?

really surprised that there are still people willing to deal with Levy. in other industries you would probably be blacklisted if you do business like this

money is money I guess but I would imagine there are some or many club wary of doing business with us. It’s pretty shameful really and reputationally very poor for the club but when you get the wins you save a bit of cash.

As much as he was ok last year he is far from a first choice keeper. We've done the right thing with that one. CB should have been sorted second though.

I thought this earlier in the week;

Maddison; one year left on contract, a deal to be done, Levy can see a lot of value and goes for it.
Solomon; a free agent (kind of), the perfect kind of Levy deal.
Vicario; a hell of a lot cheaper than Raya, a good deal.

The centre backs though are not good deals, they require us to put some effort in. Tapsoba is expensive and VdV is young and perhaps a risk. These are not the type of deals that Levy likes to sanction. We'll end up with Lenglet for £5m because Barcelona are desperate for someone to take him and Levy will see that as a good deal too.
If we end up with Lenglet we end up with the same rubbish defence from last season.

But… we’ve had ITK previously that we can’t sign good strikers as they’ll know they’re backup up Kane.

Surely by selling Kane we’ll be offering a starting place in a team that has proven its forward line can score goals for a manager who prioritises attacking play… (p.s. I still don’t think H will be leaving unless Bayern stump up serious cash)

If it's the same old same old then you weren't ott at all.

Sick of this nonsense. It's hard enough to defeat your opponents. To have to try and overcome one's own ownership is an impossible task to set players and coaches.

Bring in a new chief of football, new sporting director, new manager, new scouts. It doesn’t make a difference. Nothing will change when one man is making the decision in giving the green light to finalising a deal.

Maybe the reason we try to squeeze the VDV deal , is because the club are not sold on him beeing a player that will instantly improve our first 11? He is 22 and only had one ok season in the Bundesliga.
Hopefully something else cooking in the background and VDV is the "backup" That said i am not surprised at all that Levy is again trying to save a small amount, and probably end up with Lenglet in the end.

Or maybe Levy has form for this shit over the course of 15 years and a tiny bald leopard never changes its spots.
