I get where you’re coming from as no rebuild happens overnight BUT if you sell a player like Kane it’s just not good enough not to bring in at least one quality addition to your front line. Kane will be a huge loss even if we bought Vlahovic or Lautaro or Chiesa or any of the more established players we’ve been linked to. Reality is we are one or two injuries away from looking rather weak in certain areas.

Say we sell Sanchez, one of the few players that has links, and Romero gets injured for a month. Do you trust Dier or Davies to perform in this system? I certainly don’t.

Considering we have known we needed two new CB’s for probably 2 or 3 years now and we have (apparently) known Kane was off for months not having these moves lined up months ago is nothing other then complete and utter failure imo.

We should not be desperately trying to shove players out the door two weeks before the window closes in the hope we can bring in a “replacement” for the best striker in the world.

(obviously no one can directly replace Kane but the general point stands)
Pleased about the outs new, one of them must not be Sanchez though. Or Lo Celso.

I don't trust Sanchez in this system for any prolonged period. That's why he (as well as Dier) should be gone and the replacement brought in asap. Not selling him because we fear an injury just means we potentially get stuck with him.

If Levy sells him and then fails to secure a replacement, that's a different issue but i think the most sensible thing is to get rid of players unwanted in the long term as and when we can.

I´m sorry if wasn´t clear, but neither I nor the article make the argument that this is the sole reason for why we as a club struggle to sell players. But it can be one of several contributing factors. As most of the points have been talked about and discussed extensively across SC, I found this to be a (to me at least) a new and interesting viewpoint worth sharing. Not at least after Rob´s comment in this thread the other day: "Lots of moaning and venting is not a discussion. If anyone has any intelligent points to make about it go ahead but no one gets anything from just complaining." I don´t know if it´s "intelligent", but at least it is something different and new compared to the "Levy is a tight git"-arguments that flood these pages. (*)

That you dismiss the argument is 100% fine - obviously! And I for one appreciate that you question the argument. And I see your point about players getting snapped up from relegated teams every year. But aren´t we exactly a team that not only has stagnated but even regressed? And remember; our one, truly stand out player has been picked up. I do think that fees and salaries are important factors. I think that the "Levy-factor" plays a part. But I also believe that our current reputation/standing - at the back of 4+ plus years of bad press re our coaches and the environment inside the club - also could be a contributing factor. I don´t believe in black and white thinking and that there is only one single cause to our problems selling players. As with most aspects of life and business, there are most likely a plethora of contributing factors that are in play.

(*) He can come across as such imo - at least he must be labelled "conservative" and "careful".
Hey mate. I don't dismiss the article at all and very much appreciate you posting it.

Was just offering a counter opinion for discussion is all, in that yes we have moved backwards in recent times but if where you finish in the table is a judge of player "desirability" then why would relegated teams get poached so much?

Was just a thought - possibly a baseless one - nothing personal.

Wooo. Thanks Herc.
Wow until I read your post I had interpreted it the opposite as in “not many” outs are close. Jesus this club does a number on us.

Thanks for your positive reading, which seems correct on reflection.

Yes it isn't easy to force outgoings and it's hilarious to me that people still think people don't understand that. That's not the problem, the problem is that every single season we forget that it will be a problem and fail to plan ahead accordingly. Sick and tired of people talking down to people by pointing out the obvious when it's them who miss the point consistently.

Yeah it’s no coincidence we’ve consistently failed to shed these players, yet carry on the same way

More loans 😫
Not ideal however we aren’t desperate for cash but we are desperate for squad places, especially non HG ones. Reality is the landscape of the squad will be very different next summer. Off the top of my head Sanchez, Dier, Forster and Perisic’s contracts all run out next summer. In 25 we have loads including PEH, Sess, Regi, Ndombele even Son. At the moment I think we will be okay with getting players out even if they are mostly season loan’s.

How do you plan ahead for a problem where demand isn't there and what demand will be generated will only come at the end of the window.

Talking of speaking down, is it not arrogant to assume the management at the club don't know this and are basically idiots at their profession?

Again, the squad is good (albeit bloated) and ITK confirmed there may be up to 3 more signings. I'm positive about where we are.

No you’re right, the higher ups are extremely competent when it comes to squad building
