Wow. A lot of talk here that Mitchell Starc has been dropped for the first test.

The line up predicted by reliable media folk:

1. Warner 2. Bancroft 3. Khawaja 4. Smith 5. Head 6. Wade 7. Paine 8. Pattinson 9. Cummins 10. Lyon 11. Hazlewood.

If true, it would certainly be a risk considering Pattinson's injury history and the lack of an all-rounder to bowl 10-12 overs an innings in that team.

That looks a bowler light to me, especially when you factor in Hazlewood is coming back from injury. I would expect them to pick Mitch Marsh over Wade to give them another seam option.

I think they'll play the 5th bowler/all rounder. Mitchell Marsh for when it's likely seam around, and Labuschagne for when it might turn. Wade or Head the one to miss out.

Ball is certain to dominate bat in this series, but not having a 5th bowling option is a daft idea. We're so blessed to have Stokes that could play as a specialist batsman or bowler.

I would have thought this too, but Marsh certainly isn't the answer for me. It's a massive risk given Pattinson's history, and Hazlewood concerns. Perhaps Head might bowl a few overs of his 'off-spin.' I doubt Smith will bowl.

But these things are usually spot on from the media here, so I expect that to be the team. Whatever the result of the match, it will certainly generate discussion in any case.

I would normally agree as I think Mitch Marsh is pony, but apparently (according to Jim Maxwell on TMS Podcast that I listened to this morning) he was the best bowler in the Hick v Haddin game or whatever it was, and also when practising at Edgbaston yesterday morning he was joining in with the main bowlers.

I'm going to the Test tomorrow and hoping the weather holds, reckon I could end up seeing 15 wickets!

I'd have Denly at 2, and Roy at 4.

I'd also have Stone as a raw pace option, or Curran as a variation. The attack chosen looks a bit samey, 86mph max. All very safe.

It will be Denly at 4 and Roy opening.

I disagree with Stone & Curran. Stone isn't really a 90mph bowler. I don't follow county cricket, so I may be wrong, but from what I saw in the Ireland test, he's perhaps a little quicker than Broad and co, but he's no Wood or Archer.

As for Curran, he's a brilliant lower order batsman, but is he a better or more effective bowler than Woakes or Broad? At least for the time being, I don't believe he is.

Depending on who bowls better, Archer will probably come in for either Woakes or Broad in the Lord's test, although having said that can you drop Woakes for a Lord's test when he averages 10 with the ball there in test cricket?

I don't think our attack is bad. Especially for an Edgbaston pitch, I actually quite like it. I would prefer to see Archer, but perhaps he's a risk with his fitness for a 5 dayer, especially with a tight schedule this year in the Ashes.

Love seeing a fellow pie thrower
European cricket league, wonder if KP fancies it!??
I had my first net session in seven years on Monday after surgery and kids and I have to say I need to get out there, even at the ripe old age of 45, I’d be opening the batting and bowling!

I get that Curran's bowling doesn't rip up trees, but the change of angle would be enough to get the batsmen thinking. If you can line up roughly the same deliveries and angles ball after ball then you're going to feel comfortable at the crease quickly.

I give it twelve months and I bet we have a trio of Curran, wood and archer.
Got a feeling that if we win Jimmy will walk and I don’t think broad will be far behind him.
Today is the day, come on England!!!

Let's get into that top order early doors. Khawaja is out of nick at 3. I want Smith batting before 12pm.

We won't be too unhappy to have lost that toss. Cmon England.

I love that. I grew up with cricket everywhere from as early as I can remember, and I played every year from the age of 8 until 26, but I love seeing that someone who's not from a traditional cricket playing nation have such obvious passion for the sport that he gives off in that interview and the enjoyment he gets out of playing.

Bollocks! Could've just got Warner out first ball.
Edgbaston would've erupted like nothing else.
