No, I really don't think it does. It's a fallacy that is gaining a perception of truth because it's been repeated over and over. Re-watch the games and you'll see that Rose and Walker's game is exactly the same. They are forward no more, and back no less. The differences are elsewhere on the pitch.
I think that while individually they may not be getting forward more, a difference is that they are both getting forward at the same time. I think there have been more instances of one crossing while the other is at the far post. One of the reasons Ali was able score those goals against Chelsea was that on both occasions Rose was at the far post occupying a defender after Walker had cut the ball back to Eriksen.

I'm not sure it's 100% certain that harry Kane will start today. If he's as tired as I was after my first week of being a father then running around for 90 minutes isn't going to be easy for him.

So looking at the 4 most recent games where Walker and Rose played here are their average positions...

In these games Walker's position is the same regardless, but Rose seems to get forward more when playing in a four. And we clearly have one player further back when playing a three...

Average position, but not the are he covers during those game, but they both look like they got further forward when playing 4 at the back. Less are for them to cover when we play 3 though
Here are the heat maps for the same games

I've already shown that this doesn't really seem to be the case.

The point about it maybe making the middle less congested and thus stretching the game could be valid, but we don't get Rose and Walker further forward in a three at the back, if anything they've played higher in a back a four.

MOTD did a average position map thingy and it showed walker and rose playing more as wingers than defenders. Maybe it's down to the opposition as to how high up the pitch they play?
Definitely work well yesterday and is certainly an attacking formation with the fullbacks pushing on

When I look at those position maps the first thing that jumps out to me is how much better the overall spacing is when we use 3 at the back. With 4 defenders, our attacking players look very crowded in the middle- and that may seem like a good thing - but imagine how easy it is to defend against that jumble in the middle. With 3 in the back, the players have more room to move - forcing the defenders to cover more ground, and making it more likely they get pulled out of position.

I've not looked at anything yet from yesterday, but they did appear to be higher yesterday.

I still don't think it's the place that is making a difference, but I do think the formation is affording us more space across the pitch which we seem to be using much better. Yesterday was a big step up in playing a "lesser" team with this formation, and perhaps our most convincing performance too.

Before I'd been arguing that it's a formation to use when needing to be more solid defensively, but yesterday showed it's flexibility and use in helping us overload all over the pitch.
