as 2009 has finally ended it comes the time to pick the team of the decade. the formation will be a 4-1-2-1 formation as a way to be able to select a good veriaty of players of diffrent possitions.

goalkeeper: the position of goalkeeper is a simple one. the candidates being Buffon, casillas, van der Saar and in the early 2000s also Kahn.
Kahn started the 2000s as the greatest goalkeeper in the world, but by 2003 he was already past it. he did not preform to such a high level for the duration of the decade. Although always a good goalkeeper Casillias has only become a world class goalkeeper at the back end of the 2000s. Van der Saar although consistent (the problems at Juve being the only exeption) never truley was world class, so for being a consistantly world class keeper Buffon strolles into the team

Left back: Although he had his glimpses of potential Roberto carlos misses out this list, for apart from "that" free kick I always thought of him as over hyped. A hype he never really furfilled. So the list is Ashley Cole, Paolo maldini and Philipp Lahm.

Ashley Cole is a good fullback, we is also a "grade A" prick. Ever since he has learnt to defend his game has gone up a level although he hasn't made the impact on Chelsea has he did in Arsenal. he has also shown some fragility in defence particularly when covering for his CBs. Same can be said for Philipp lahm although I adore his playing style. So the insperation that is Paulo maldini although he can cover CB gets the nod.

CB: the list is Ferdinand, Cannavaro, Thuram and Nesta. I would put Nesta staight into the team despite his injury problems. For me he is the best CB this decade. on the other hand the pinnical of Thuram's carrier has to be the 1998 world cup, and he would certainly make the team if that was within the 2000s but it wasnt..so he misses out. While Ferdinand at times was supurb he does switch off far too often, and although Cannavaro has his inconsistancies, his form for Juve, his last two years in Parma and most importantly the world cup 2006 merits his place in the team..

RB: well Sergio Ramos, Cafu and Zambrotta make my list. Cafu although great in the 2000s he was really special in the 90s, so again like Thuram before him an othewise certainty misses out. Zambrotta suffers with the problem of being far to versitile, although now settled at right back his versitility does count against him. he has also seemingly lost his way after the 2006 world cup triumph. Sergio Ramos although defencively suspect gets the nod for in the last 5 years he has been great. I suspect he may well be the potential right back for team of the 2010s at only 23.

holding midfielder: Gattuso, Makalele and Essien. Although Gattuso is a great player. he also relies on the back of an incredible world cup campeign. Makalele and Essien is a hard call, but Makalele wins it for me through simbolism above all else.

LM: list Nedved, Giggs, Ronaldinho and...Iniesta although the latter two are effectively out of position. I feel Giggs is playing time as a icon and figure this decade and his best stuff really came in the 90s. And although ronaldinho was at times the best player in the world by a mile at others he was actually a hinderence to the team. In the end this boils down to Iniesta and Nedved. which is a toughtough choice. Which goes to iniesta even though Nedved Led the chezch republic to almost euro glory single handedly. Iniesta on the other hand is a player that can play anywhere on the field. And has constently shown himself to be a world class player

RM: I hate him but christiano Ronaldo it is....with maybe Figo behind him

CM: hardest position of them all with Xiavi, Pirlo, Kaka, Riquelme, Gerrard and Zidane vieing for this position. Zidane wins it..need I say no more

CF: this being the more creative position, Im going to cheat here and the list will be Raul, Totti, Henry, Rooney and Messi. Although Henry is certainly world class. Messi edges it

ST: David Villa, Torres, Ronaldo, Van Nistleroy, although also prominent in the 90s it is fat ronaldo to me.

so my team is

Buffon

S Ramos- Cannevaro- Nesta--- Maldini
