Cares on MNF just said Chelsea have the best academy because they relocate families and give dads scouting jobs ?

Heard a savagely damning assessment of our youth system from a prem team’s scout.

Lack of interest, investment and planning. Wasn’t great listening

Baffling really considering you’d consider levy shrewd. Look how much Chelsea make from it. Gallagher and Broja alone is now probably £70-80m

We've got some excellent talent through the age groups but we do look a bit aimless at the moment. What is our strategy as a club? We allowed everything to get so bad that we're now basically operating on a season by season basis, with a top coach, but not necessarily building anything sustainable, but just trying to claw back all of the progress we've lost since we decided a few seasons back that transfers were totally overrated.

The thing is for Spurs youth development isn’t a nice to have, it’s a necessity. It’s the only way we get to compete.

I just don’t feel that we have had first team coaches who actually get that. We need a manager who will commit long term and get involved in the club at all levels, and a board who will back him.

Since I’ve been on SC about7 years I’ve followed the youth team through these posts from fans who are very good giving information about our youth , It started with Marcus edwards and others along the way who some thought that they were unbelievable prospects , it’s so sad that very little became first team players . Are we as a club bad at bringing them through or is it like that at most other clubs
Pretty standard, they reckon that 1/2% of academy prospects make it all the way to a Prem first team, so ridiculously hard to achieve

For me that is because of the pressure Managers/Head Coaches are under. Most just can't risk persevering with a youngster, unless he is truly outstanding, when either they are fighting relegation or challenging for a top 4 place.

No idea to be honest, probably plays a part, but it’s difficult, thr person who predicts how a youngster develops and plays in the future will be worth a mint as so many variants!

With a young player you never really know what you’ve got until you play them, and how their careers pan out once they have left doesn’t offer much of a counterfactual to how they might have developed if they had been given that opportunity. For whatever reason, coaches can be too ready to persevere with expensive flops rather than give a youngster a chance. When a youth player comes through it is usually down to us having made some terrible purchases. Harry Kane owes a lot to Roberto Soldado, a lot of players selflessly cleared a path for Olly Skipp, and frankly Serge Aurier should have been the making of Kyle Walker-Peters (who for all that he hasn’t fulfilled his potential I would still swap in a heartbeat for either of our current starting RWBs).

Brighton had a 14 year old playing for U18 today Mhueka. Could probably get away with being early 20s lol.

I'm trying to think of the youngest player I've ever seen play for our U18s. I remember Laste Dombaxe playing as an U15. I think Dean Parrett might have made the odd appearance as an U15. Terry Dixon probably would have done but he was injured for much of his U15s and U16s. I can't think of anyone younger than Laste.

Be interesting if Ramel Carter might feature pretty young. I think he’s at that stage of scoring 5 goals in a game quite regularly.

Wasn’t Dean Parrett still at QPR when he was 15?
