Personally I’d keep Sessegnon here. As a bench option due to his ability to cover LB, LWF or RWF, he should be prime for getting minutes to continue his development. You need to factor in that we’ll be in Europa next year (probably), and as such Thursday games against lower calibre opposition will be ideal to get some of these guys competitive minutes, without PL or CL pressure.
Does seem odd that Jose wants defensive wingers but doesn’t seem interested in Sessegnon when I imagine that’s the role Sess perform well.

I disagree that he wants defensive wingers. He just wants them to perform very rounded roles. He wants Lucas both protecting his full back and pinning theirs back, as well as setting up goals. It’s not as if he’s playing career left backs there.

That's more of what I'd call a defensive winger. Either way I think Sess could do exactly what you just described from the LW spot (even if it's just off of the bench) as it's quite similar to what he was doing at Fulham.

He appears to be looking to suffocate teams, then counter at pace as a unit. Sessegnon could perform the attacking left fullback role, or either of the wide forward roles, outside from the left or inside from the right.

Yeah would seem a good fit playing in front of Davies.

I think we'll end up seeing sess at LB and Tanganga at RB in a reversal of our current formation

The fact he didn’t try this more when Davies was injured makes me doubt it. It seemed obvious but was never even attempted off the bench.

It seems like the back 3 while in possession system we had at the beginning of Mou’s tenure might be in the bin.

Doesn’t appear to be doing the whole ‘one defensive full back, one wing back’ thing any more.
What makes you say that?

I think it only looks that way because we've played against teams that haven't just sat back and our play is moving much faster from back to front but you can still see Aurier trying to push up and provide width. It will become more evident when a team employs a low defensive line against us. You'll see Aurier high and wide.

The one thing that troubles me is that Sessegnon doesn't come across as someone with blistering pace or even fantastic delivery from wide. He seems to be a player that is more intelligent with his movement and able to be in the right place at the right time. I'm wondering how useful that is to a Left back rather than a LWF

Disagree about Sessegnon's pace. He is pretty darn quick.

Question for those of you who follow our youth teams closely:

How far off a place in the first team squad is Dennis Cirkin? Obviously, he has no experience at senior level....so my question is more about his physical and mental maturity. Is he the kind that could thrive and make an immediate impact or will he need time to grow into senior football through well chosen loan spells?

I ask because I see left back as one of the positions that most requires strengthening in our first team. Ben Davies is a decent defender but offers comparatively little going forward. Overall, he’s a bit “meh” to me. Decent, likeable, good squad option......but not a starting left back for a team that aspires to win the biggest trophies. A big downgrade on peak Danny Rose.

Ryan Sessegnon obviously has huge potential. But I’m not sure that it is at left back. So the question is - should we actively be looking to buy a new left back this window or should we give Dennis Cirkin the opportunity to deputise Ben Davies this season and see if he can make the position his own?

I would be happy to support him as a backup LB. I don't think he's one of those players that needs loans, just time and patience, and if he was around other top players he'd do well.

I don't expect him to come in and be our best player but then I also think any player we sign will always have a settling in period, heck some of our signings take a year to settle, so wouldn't be any worse in that regard, but his upside could be huge

From OS :

The Club can also confirm the departures of Development Squad players Rayan Clarke, Jonathan Dinzeyi, Tariq Hinds, Phoenix Patterson, Maxwell Statham and Maximus Tainio following the conclusion of their contracts. We wish them all the best in the next stage of their careers

Clarke, Dinzeyi and Hinds can consider themselves very unlucky. Clarke was held back massively by a serious knee injury, Dinzeyi was a victim of catching Poch's eye and Hinds...I have no earthly idea why we didn't do more with him. I'm pretty surprised that Mukendi is still at the club given that he's played what?..three games in three years.

In term of genuine talent, Hinds and Clarke for differing reasons I feel we missed out on some good players. Dinzeyi, was a good CB but I don't think he was as good as Tanganga, Eyoma, Binks most likely Walcott, heck I even think Brown was a decent CB. That's more of a refleciton of the talent we had but I'm not annoyed that we've lost Dinzeyi when thankfully Mourinho is trying to bring through Tanganga. Just think Dinzeyi, like Eyoma and many others could've been loaned out, and potentially had value added and then sold rather than leave for free. It's a shame we have a player we deem worthy of taking on a preseason and an England youth international leave at 20 years old without a single professional appearance.

Patterson was a good player, but I think was never going to make it here, but again he is one I would definitely haves sent abroad as he was more than talented enough to have a decent loan out there, and potentially add a lot of value.
