Cudicini - 6 - Didn't have too much to do but did pull off some good saves towards the end.

Corluka - 6
Dawson - 6
Bassong - 6
Assou Ekotto - 6.5

Townsend - 8 - Great debut, looks like he could do well. Not sure how different he is to Lennon but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Hope he gets some more chances this half of the season now we've shipped Bentley out.
Palacios - 5 - Sloppy
Sandro - 6 - Did well
Kranjcar - 6 - Did himself no harm today, though didn't exactly shine either.

Pav - 6 - Typical Pav performance really
Defoe 7 - Took the goals well

Modric - 8 - Changed the game when he came on, noticeably a different class.

Modric MOM just for the first 15 mins of the second half, for a little guy he was head and shoulders above veryone else, changed the game. Impressed with Townsend though, only bright spark in the first half, and carried on the same in the 2nd. Could defo' do a job if Lennon is injured.

Had to listen to it on the radio so I can't give rating. Sounded like Modric made the difference so I voted him MOTM.

Pretty much what I was going to say. Although I think Sandro deserves a 7 and Modric a 9.

I'm most interested in hearing about Sandro. How'd he fare in comparison to Palacios, for instance?

Luca MOTM (like just about every week!) Absolute class, talk about 1 man making a big difference

First half with Wilson and Sandro we created nothing, moved the ball too slowly and had no spark

I was glad Wilson came off instead of Sandro and was hoping for better things from him 2nd half but Sandro's performance 2nd half was much the same as the 1st and I was disappointed

Carlo made a few good saves and Daws played well alongside Bassong who was poor (normally I like him).

Townsend did well in a pretty lacklustre Spurs performance but Ive seen better debuts against similar opposition and they've turned out to be nowhere near good enough at a higher level

adding on to that point, how was the pairing of modric and sandro in the middle?

Sandro and Palacios are both DMs really so that coupled with Krancjar's galacial pace mean we only really pushed through Townsend on the right in the first half. Sandro was fairly mobile but wasn't really creative.

Once Modric came on he ran the entire midfield between both penalty areas. He was immense. Sandro seemed a lot more comfortable with Modric than Palacios

Palacios was sloppy. Being subbed at half-time was pretty fair. Sandro was pretty solid and combative, much more so than Palacios.

To be fair Palacois did not do much wrong. Sandro and him are quite similiar players both holding midfielders, we needed an attacking midfielder like Modric on there, Kranjcar did not look himself.

Cudicini 8 - some great saves and good distribution

Benny 7 worked tirelessly
Dawson 7
Bassong 6
Charlie 6

Townsend 8 - great performance with some humiliating (for Charlton) showboating and good pace
Palacios 6
Sandro 6 - with these two in the middle we were desperately lacking creativity
Niko 6 - looked beautiful - but that was his hair, not his game

Defoe 7 Loved his goals especially the second one in which he just wouldn't give up. Am I being over sensitive or should anything be read in to the fact that the team didn't run over to him when he scored? Or was that just because they knew we were cruising to victory?
Pav 6 Good in parts, but not enough of them.

Modric 8 - sublime first 15 mins in which he transformed the game with his class and technical ability.

Nah nothing in that, more that we were cruising against mush lower league oppo and they'd all had to drag there asses over to celebrate Townsends first ever goal a bit earlier

Defoe used to play for Charlton as a yoof (and left in controversial circumstances I think) so it was probably more out of respect for them that there were no wild celebrations.

Cudicini came in and made some very good saves, looked confident on crosses and played as well as I've seen him.

Corluka supported Townsend well and defended astutely.

Dawson plays the same way whether it's Man U or Stevenage and this was no different, another imperious performance from captain fantastic.

Bassong was fine and didn't look troubled all match.

Ekotto being the one first teamer not given the day off, gave himself the day off. In the second half he was almost up front once we were 3 up.

Townsend scored a peach, was never afraid to take on (and usually beat) his man and really showed some skill and good delivery with either foot. I'm delighted with his showing and more excited about im than I was before. He believes in himself and with young wingers that's half the battle a lot of the time.

Palacios together with Sandro did not work and, taking on the mantle of trying to be Modric did not suit him and he just didn't cut it today.

Sandro wasn't great in the first half but he improved in the second half (as everyone did) probably due to the presence of Modric making his life so much easier.

Kranjcar did not look like his heart was in it. I love the guy and really want him to stay but does he want to?

Defoe seemed like he was trying too hard in the first half. He snatched at things and always took a touch too many. Then he scored a beautiful solo effort and a poachers second, and his confidence visibly returned from then on.

Pavlyuchenko was ok in the first half, he emerged with some credit in my opinion, and he worked pretty hard in the second half but nothing seemed to come off for him in the box. He looked a touch dejected towards the end and I think he wanted it for Defoe's second just so he could register on a scoresheet and get his confidence up.

Modric came on and was absolutely sublime. Is there a more on form central midfielder in England at the moment?
