Do people actually get paid for writing this shit?

I'm in the wrong industry.

I'm in the industry, and there is another way. Unfortunately I have to go through this every morning: how a modern online story is source checked

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.te...entally-poisons-biting-plant-live-stream/amp/

Vlogger death reported by Telegraph, with full quotes. Says she's recovering in hospital. Cites "Chinese sources" and a report in the Shanghaiist.

Go to Shanghaiist, it is same story, almost word for word, with no medical details or even a video clip of the incident, with a "H/T" to Asia Online.

Go to Asia Online, it is the same story, almost word for word, citing The Mirror (UK) as the source.

Go to The Mirror. It is the same story, word for word. Story has no source

So this story originated at The Mirror, was picked up by Chinese blogs, then reported back in the U.K as if it came from there. They haven't spoken to the person involved yet there are quotes somehow.

At our news meeting this morning, I rejected it on that basis. There is absolutely no evidence it happened.

And now The Telegraph, The Independent, The Mail, The Next Web etc have all covered it, referencing the same "Chinese sources", with the same quotes and the same Mirror 20 second clip that doesn't show anything untoward.

No one has added anything to the story and there's still not a single confirmation - from the person involved, doctors, anyone - that this actually happened.

This is effectively how 90% of football rumour stories are written and rewritten. For Shanghaiist read Tuttencomeoverweb and their like. Whenever you trace these exotic stories from abroad, they're almost always filtered tabloid speculation from close to home

I think there is an element of truth in Gylfi coming back to Spurs. Poch likes him and wishes Spurs hadn't sold him prior to his arrival. He has been great for Swansea and I liked him as a player at Spurs.
The only problem I see will be the Swansea asking price and thier reluctance to sell him. For those reasons only I see this a dead rumour.

He couldn't not get into the first team when he was with us and that will not change a second time around. They want 30 or 40 million which is nuts and normally I would see this as a dead rumour but after last season I'm not so sure.

Of course, of course.

Pochettino: "We likes Gylfi, it is good for the team and we are happy to buying him".

Levy: "Quite agree, quite agree, sir. Should we also play a prank?"

Pochettino: "Si signor, prank is good for the team. We are happy with prank"".

Levy: "Twitter-dude, how is your work load?"

Twitter-dude: "Slow, Mr. Levy, slow as your hair replacement."

Levy: "yes, well, can you put out a prank on twitter about Sigurdsson when you have a moment?".

Would be more than happy with sig back. Has improved at Swansea and brings goals. Superb squad player. Who do we have like him on bench now?
