Sending Walker Back On When He Couldn't Walk

I'm starting to get the impression that a) Walker is a bit of a whinger and, in the staff's eyes at least, a bit of a hypochondriac, and b) Poch is getting fed up with it. I can't think of any reason to send an injured player back out and the reaction from Walker, to sit down and wait to be subbed, smacks of a childish row.

Walker had a stinker first half, AGAIN, and i imagine was very much sulking when Poch bawled him out. He says, "got a boo-boo", Poch says, "Yeah, in your head, get back out there and run it off, physio says you're dandy", so just to prove a point, Walker can't play on. I refuse to believe that Poch and a trained physio would've sent him back out if he genuinely was as badly hurt as he appeared to be.

Whole team needs to man the fuck up right now, we need some steely balls, and i don't see anyone showing a pair.

That's what I was thinking.

I can't see Poch:

a) Sending a player back on if he was truly injured
b) Only taking him off when he practically sits down to force a sub
then
c) Promptly tells the media that he doesn't think Walker is badly injured

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, he seems like a no-nonsense guy and is perhaps trying to beat the weaknesses out of the team.

Second time Poch has done it. You could argue the last time it happened it cost us a cup.

I think the player was injured and should never have been on the pitch.

Same player too - as i said, i'm wondering if Poch (or his staff) has identified Walker as a lightweight, someone who needs some tough love and is refusing to pander to his whining. Really can't see him risking sending him back out if he thought it was anything serious.

We really, really need some alternative options ready sooner, rather than later, at both left and right back. Davies & Yedlin need fast-tracking, somehow.

Well I would argue otherwise rss. The last time he did this he crocked the player longer and cost us a goal. It was indeed the same player.

Poch is making more enemies than Tim and AVB put together if your scenario is correct. Which I doubt because I believe it was just poor management. He had no recognised cb on the bench and had fucked up. Looking to blame a player who was clearLy injured isn't good on any level.

That's what I said at the time! But thankfully, it didn't matter, and Davies put in a very competent performance at CB, considering that's probably the first time he's played there.
He has experience here and there not with spurs though

Think rb is weaker at moment...didn't think I'd say that start of season

Not sure why anyone thinks Davies at cb was a strange decision. He's played there quite a few times, including literally the most recent match he played (for Wales).

To be fair dude, I was close to it when it happened and I said at the time to my boy that I reckon that's done him. It looked nasty straight away and I thought he'd come off there and then

If Poch over-ruled both the player and the physio to send him back out, there will have to be a massive investigation - how can a manager risk an asset regardless of what he was told by both him and a professional, medically qualified individual?

That's my problem - he simply can't. If there was any suggestion that Walker was indeed badly hurt, unable to go back out, i can't think of any scenario where Poch would over-rule everyone in the dressing room and insist he goes back out. That's why i'm left to believe that he wasn't the only one to suspect the injury to not be serious.

The most likely situation is they went into the locker room, physio took a look and said he couldn't see any obvious signs of injury without x-rays or whatnot, they asked if he felt he could go on with it strapped up, he went out and apparently the strapping didn't do the trick and he had to come off. Simple as that.

Walker doesn't strike you as a whiner though? Always the victim-face on him when he's caught out of position, like someone else should've been doing that job?

Certainly has never given me cause to consider him a battler or the one to lift the side when it's on it's arse.

Someone was telling me that Ben Davies has played CB for Wales a decent amount. Don't know if it's true or not, but he looked like he'd been there before today.

I think Walker could be a class player with the cb 3 system him playing slightly above the rcb Or with any system he isn't playing now like all the other players. That was very negative today.

Absolute insanity.

Thank fuck Walker sat down until he was taken off.

This is actually the second time it's happened too.
He was injured before half-time against Chelsea in the cup final and hobbled back on and we conceded the 2nd goal as a result.

What on earth is Pochettino playing at?
Regardless of what people think about any players footballing ability, the ability to run unhindered is an absolutely essential aspect. I'd rather have Neil Ruddock 2015 on the pitch than a badly injured Kyle Walker (hold the jokes about doing that anyway lol)

There's also the whammy that sending him back out may have made an insufficient injury a significant one.

Through all the dross of today I feel this is a talking point.

Why would it happen?
Our injury record has never been better, hail king Potch if he thinks it is good for walker to go back on with a suspected sprained ankle then so be it, the magic jellied eels will be rubbed on his feet after the game and all will be fine.

They almost certainly wouldn't have forced Walker out if he hadn't said he could try.

What was stupid was not having a CB on the bench. Even if it was one of the kids from the U21's.

The whole team stank yesterday. Let's not pussy-foot around the facts. Bad day at the office for everyone, especially Pochettino who has to carry the can for making some utterly bizarre decisions and team selections. Burnley were awful and we were even worse, whatever that means (and although it makes feel like puking to admit it, just wait and see what Arsenal do to them next week...)

So, is that our season done and dusted now?

Shouldn't matter what walker says. He should have been told he's off. If a man can't run he can't play football because he's a liability.

I'd like to think levy will have a little word with Poch about being careful with highly valued and highly paid assets as well.
Problem is, he won't know if he can run until he gets out on he pitch, hence the quick sub!

Vlad will have to fill Walker's spot and am sure he will do a good job. Walks has been quite poor lately.

Walker has been so bad for months. Really thought when we signed him he would be awesome for us but he is just not good enough.

Poch would have been guided by advice from the medical staff so blaming the manager for this is just a fucking lame excuse to have a pop. It's pathetic, stupid and 2 more dollops of pathetic with a flake stuck in the side, hundreds and thousands sprinkled on top and strawberry syrup poured over it all.
