Personally I'd rather see Spurs get Lucas Digne if they are going for a French LB.Home » Football News »

Tottenham and AC Milan join chase for Frenchman

Tottenham and AC Milan are the latest clubs show an interest in Lyon left-back Samuel Umtiti, according to Talksport

The French international is one of Ligue’s 1′s top prospects and has been attracting interest throughout Europe this season after a string of quality performances for Lyon.
Newcastle were initially thought to be in the driving seat for the 19-year-old having raided the French league numerous times over the past two seasons.
Hatem Ben Arfa and Yohan Cabaye were both raided from France’s top division, and both midfielders have already proved to be top acquisitions.
They also enjoyed a shopping spree on the continent in January after a slow start to the season. Moussa Sissoko, Yoan Gouffran, Massadio Haidara, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Mathieu Debuchy all signing contracts at the club, giving Pardew the strength in depth that he needed.
It was even reported that club scout Graham Carr was among the crowd that watched the French U20′s win over Denmark in France late last week.
However they’re now said to be joined by fellow Premier League side Tottenham and Italian giants AC Milan, With Tuttosport even claiming that the Italians could be preparing a £7million offer to clinch his signature this coming summer.
If this is the case then Newcastle could be set to miss out, as it is likely that Samuel Umtiti will struggle to turn down the lure of Champions League football. Something that both Tottenham and AC Milan look set to be able to offer potential signings next summer.

Liked the look of this lad when we played them, big strong and quick, but what impressed me most was his stamina, he was up and down that flank all night.

But he was skinned by Lennon in the first game - until he got "help".

Yeah you have a point, but in general I remember thinking he was decent. I think if we are looking at young left-backs he would have to be in my top 5 to sign. Personally I'd like to see what Danny Rose could do, and I think Zeki could be a decent player, so signing a left back wouldnt be my top priority.

Rather sign competition for Walker, not sure Naughton will be around after this summer. Corchia will ding dang do. Or Jung, potentially Lahm's successor in the national team.

We already have Naughton, Rose, and Fryers who can play LB. If we are to sign another, he should be significantly better than those 3, because whats the point in having 4 players with potential but not necessarily first XI caliber quality?

Not sure about Naughton at left back, he looks like a fish out of water playing their. The Fulham match were he played at right back was also evidence that Walker offers us much more on that side. However I think Adam Smith could be a quality player to really challenge Walker. Naughtons a decent player but I'm not sure he'll be with us next season if we get a decent offer, just my opinion.

He is actually a center back, who can play on the left. Just like Jan, he played some games on the left this year, but his best position is definitively in the center.
