Royston Drenthe could be on the verge of his dream move to the Premier League by following international temamate Rafael Van Der Vaart into White Hart Lane.

If the whispers are to be believed, Drenthe could be set to reject the advances of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger in order to secure a move to Harry Redknapp’s title hopefulls.

Currently on loan to Hercules CF from Spanish giants Real Madrid, Drenthe would welcome the chance of a permanent move away from the Bernabeau after failing to cement a regular place in Jose Mourinho’s championship chasing side.

The young Dutchman, who already has more than 20 international appearances ranging from U21 level up to his first full cap in the senior side , is said to be keen on linking up with international teammate Rafael Van Der Vaart at the Lane despite many believing that the Emirates would be his eventual destination.

Drenthe 23, who has also attracted the attention of both Liverpool and numerous Spanish clubs in recent months, would appear to have all the attributes required to succeed in the Premier League. Whilst being one of the quickest players in any of the major european leagues, he shows good strength on the ball and an eye for an early pass;.. a good skill to possess given the pace of the game in the English top flight.

Whether the pacey wideman is in fact on Harry Redknapp’s radar;.. only time will tell, but with Aaron Lennon’s hit and miss form of recent months and David Bentley’s imminent exit from the Lane, Drenthe would appear (on paper at least) to fit the bill for Harry’s side.

Only 23, yet i seem to have been hearing about him for years - not your run of the mill, everyday name really, is it?

There will be a trend for rumours of Dutch players coming to us now, it's the way the media appear to do things - "he's from Holland, therefore he must be following the (arguably) most successful Dutch international to have moved in the last window".

Fills inches. If there is any weight to the rumour though, lets hope he has as much of an impact as VDV did.

shows you how rubbish the report is , when the guy is left footed , yet he is touted at replacing lennon and Bentley

I like Drenthe and reckon his style of play would suit the EPL perfectly. He's all action, direct and pacey with good dribbling skill to boot.

It's not uncommon for wingers to switch sides nowadays though - think about it; left footed player cutting in from the right side sets up a much more natural shot with the inside of the boot. Yeah, means less likely to take it to the line, but Lennon & Bale rotate regularly - this might be one of the things Lennon is still trying to get his head around, i don't know, but Bale seems to do it quite fluidly.

Bale and Lennon at times swap wings... does happen!

would like to see him at spurs, we were after him just before he moved to them after his U21 performance i think

Drenthe seems to be one of the many players we are linked with every window - Beckham, RVN, Van Bommell, Dave, etc. He would be a good player to have in the squad though as he can play a number of roles and play on both sides.

Drenthe was poor when he first went to Real Madrid which is understandable given his age back then but if my memory serves it was as a left back.

We don't need him if he is to come in that role.

Do you reckon we should give Drenthe a nickname? How about Roy .

He's mostly a left winger now, a lot like Bale in that sense.

I would prefer Pienaar, and i'm sure he'd be cheaper. He's more experienced and already proven in England. Not that i'd be unhappy with Drenthe mind, he looks to be closer to his potential these days. A quick skillful backup for Bale and Lennon would be nice. Someone who can play on either wing and effectively replace Giovani as a backup/challenger for the first team.

I'd be more pleased with Drenthe myself more to the fact he's got a lot more years ahead of him and his potential means he will probably end up better than Pienaar. Nevertheless Pienaar is more likely and would be more cheaper and I wouldn't be against getting him in either.

Yes his debut for Real was as a left back however he played more games as a left winger in the end. He may have been poor when he first got there but there was something in him still to get 18 games in his first season and 20 the next.
IMO he is exactly what we need, Disco has taken the LB position as a given now and he needs competition to keep him on his toes (I know this theory would be spot on with any other player but with Disco even i dont know). Also he would provide cover for Bale when the lad needs a well deserved break or god forbid he gets injured.
He is very quick (dont think many people realise exactly how quick this guy is) and has good skill & dribbling abilities to boot.
Being dutch i have kept an eye these sort of players.
Real will be looking to get him of their books since the bust up under previous management which was patched up under Jose but the fans still booed him when he came on for them.
IMO ideal squad player and may surprise some people and make the LB position his own, frightening to think the pace the left side would potentially have
