Sounds to me like Danny is echoing his own thoughts or making excuses for another player that wants out, the last thing we need is a "marquee signing" the only thing I will say is, we maybe need that one experienced player that knows how to get over the line and win a trophy.

If any player is genuinely thinking what Rose is saying, well, they know where the door is, if they think they can get better then, again, they know where the door is, this team is about the team, it's a long-term project, not a money project with a shortcut to the top.

More fool them if they want to leave us for Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City or Man United, last time I checked, only one of those finished above us last season and the ones behind us were nowhere near us.

I wonder who's place in the starting 11 this marquee signing would take.
Why does it exactly have to be a direct replacement it is to augment the squad but be able to rotate or add something different we will be playing a lot of games next year plenty of game time for a cm or am.

We need players that improve us and players who buys Pochs philosophy. Look at Dier and Alli. The combined transfer was around 10m GBP, Sure, there may be addons, but it's still very cheap considering how good they play. We should buy young players around 5-15m GBP, and develop them and maybe add an older player like Dani Alves (not necessarily him, but someone with an outstanding careeer who oozes winner mentality),

I wouldn't really call someone who comes in to add quality to the squad a marquee signing. Surely a marquee signing is one who is such a great player that they'd expect to be the first name on the team sheet.

Dani Alves would be the perfect "marquee" signing if walker were to go. Still world class, a proven winner and perfect for Poch's formula.

I'm Sure this is all about perception.

Of course if we can get Dele quality for a lower league for less than £10m we'd Do that in a heart beat.

But This would be to demonstrate off-season stature. We have progressed so well with what we have under Poch but with the other 'top' sides chucking £50m a pop around we stand still whilst others seemingly go forwards and back ahead of us with their Griezmans et al.

Undoubtably One huge marquee signing (as long as he fits the ethos, finances etc) would preserve the feel good through the summer and kick things off on a high next season.

We must have £84m kicking around somewhere!;)

A ridiculous transfer fee, even in the £80m bracket, wouldn't actually be that unaffordable. We can probably spend around £30m so add in a lump from Walker, Bentaleb etc and there's no reason we couldn't. What we can't afford is the £250,000 per week wage packet that would go with such a player, and the demands from our other stars to then be paid equally.

We need the right players. You don't have to look very far back in history to see that marquee doesn't always = success.

No but better players give you a better chance of success which is why the biggest clubs have more of them and continue to win things on a constant basis.

Much as I love Moussa Dembele, his injuries continue to be an issue and he's probably the first top drawer player we need to replace. Kovacic would be an amazing signing for my money.

He'd be great but gets plenty of games for madrid. Why would he join us?

"Find next Dele" from "the lower leagues" and make "one marquee signing" to push on in the Champions League. Speaks positively about the marquee signing - the intent behind it showing the club wants to kick on.

He also mentions he wants more depth in the squad. Replacement for Dele and Eriksen is mentioned (if they were to get injured), also mention that Lamela's injury necessitated the back three.

He does state there is only "so much" the club can do. Talks about the individual choice to move or not.

So 'next Dele' I'd assume is Ryan Sessegnon. Ollie Watkins of Exeter is a goalscoring secondary striker/midfielder and won Football League Young Player of the Year - quite like Dele in a lot of ways. Ben Brereton at Forest we were definitely rumoured to be looking at, whose won Football Apprentice of the Year.

The marquee signing is just a term for someone who is a (football fan's) household name I think. So for us that could be someone more in line with Thomas Lemar, Douglas Costa, Riyad Mahrez, Dani Alves, Naby Keita, Felipe Anderson, Domenico Berardi, Angel Correa etc. We have had history signing these exact kind of players (Eriksen, Lamela, Alderweireld had similar pedigree and stature, among many others) so I can't see why we shouldn't aim for at least one of them this summer, though not more than two.

Well that's very generous of you.
Daniel will probably get you good deal on that one
Are you paying the wages as well?

I agree in part with Rose, I mean the other side of the coin is that we've done incredibly well without any marquee signings.

One thing I do think though is that if we do sign a 'high profile' or very talented player it's the type of message that will further convince the current players that they are at the right place, they'd possibly be thinking 'well if this player is coming here how could I want out'. I don't like to think that just signing a 'big player' is the answer to any problem but I think it could do a lot of good for the mental state of some of the players.
