Can't put Robbo in just yet. Cerny made an error against Utd but has to be given a chance to carry on based on his performances so far which have been good.

Exactly. The game was over by the time cerny messed up, one balls up should not be punished where robbo has done pretty much every game he plays

Everyone seems to think that Robbo has just been a naughty boy and now that the nasty manager has made him sit outside for a while, he's learnt his lesson and will be back in the team.

I, for one, hope Cerny stays in goal. Yes, he made a mistake for Utd's last goal, but other than that he's been excellent, and for the first time in about 18 months I can watch Spurs without constantly sweating that the goalkeeper is about to make a howler. Robinson didn't just have one or two bad games, he was off-form for many months. I don't want him back in the team until Cerny screws up big time.

When people slagged off Robbo when he was in goal, there was lots of stern and pompous nonsense about how he was our keeper and we ought to back him. Well, now Cerny is our keeper and the same people seem to think that it's fair to drop him after one mistake. On current form (the last 6 months) Cerny is a far more reliable keeper than Robbo and deserves his place.

Fair enough and i agree with a lot of what you say, but remember that Robinson is our number one goalkeeper, Cerny is his backup. He understands that, Robbo understands that. I'm fully in support of whoever is between the posts but, even on the bench, i still view Robinson as our off form number one and it won't be a case of when Cerny screws up, it'll be a case of when Robinson is once again better than Cerny, he'll reclaim his place.

That's where I disagree. As far as I'm concerned, every player on in the squad is competing in their particular area.

Look at Arsenal. Almunia was number 2 behind Lehmann. But Lehmann kept screwing up. Almunia initially came into the team on a sporadic basis, but when it turned out that he was consistently performing better than Lehmann, he stayed in the team. And Wenger made it clear that whoever performs best in goal will stay there, irrespective of reputation. I'd like the same thing to happen at Spurs.

The Cern all the way for me. And I agree with themanwhofellasleep. Our number one goalkeeper is the keeper that plays on the day, on merit.

if this sites anything to go by he'd be dropped.

bit harsh on one game though. he's been pretty solid though out its stay between the sticks

He hasn't been that solid though, looked good but nothing more. Still makes mistakes, maybe not as big as Robbo, but he has gotten away with a few.

Cerny's contract is up at the end of this season - already the likes of QPR are mooted to be sniffing above their level.

So the quandry is do we continue to big up Serny and provide him with his shop window even if he is doing the business of keeping clean sheets?

Or do we invest in Robbo's confidence with a new look defence and say to the big man - "Pull your socks up and be part of this club or ....."?

How many does he have....2? 5 less than Robbo this season.

but... i dont think we should recall Robbo yet.

Like i have said, not been convinced with ether keeper this season, but i think Robbo is the better keeper on his day.

He needs time out of the first team spot, he might not like it but hopefuly when /if he does come back there wont be so much pressure on him and he will have a back 4 that wont change every game. Also the midfeild have been doing better tracking back so it should help both keepers.

No such thing as a number 1 this or that, we have a squad and Ramos will play the form players, he doesn't worry about reputations or players sulking, he plays who will do him the best job at the time, that's Cerny currently.

Cerny is more decisive coming off his line and, despite a couple of juggling acts, the safer pair of hands when collecting crosses. But Robinson is the better shot-stopper, and when it comes to kicking, no contest; not that you necessarily want every ball travelling practically the length of the pitch, but it's a very handy option to have—as VdS demonstrated on Sunday.

But there's no reason Cerny shouldn't keep his place for the time being.

Keeper will be the number one priority in the summer. Its so obvious. I imagine Ramos would have liked to bring in a new keeper this transfer window, but nothing promising got going.

5 less, yes, but Cerny has played 10 games. Robinson 27. Of course Robinson is gonna have more clean sheets.

There's also the fact that since Ramos put Cerny in goal we've played six games and four of those games have been against the big three (Liverpool are shit!): Arsenal (x2), Chelsea and Man Utd. Cerny got a clean sheet against Reading and Sunderland (where he kept us in the game). So far he's done bloody well...and I really think he deserves to keep his place, at least for now.

Don't agree that the deflected Utd goal was his fault . When a shot has its trajectory altered at such close proximity its impossible to realign a goalie's body quick enough and a shot can squirm or bobble through .

More creedence imo in the blame for the other goal from the long Utd kick .He didn't command the area , but then thats one of Robbo's probs too .

Keep Cerny in for a bit longer .

I agree that he should keep his place, i even said that. The problem i have is people saying that Cerny is solid. Bebasue to me he hasn't been. He has been good, much better than Robbo, but them it seems our players can only be brilliant or shit.

Quite possibly. But if that had been Robinson, he would have been roundly slaughtered on here.

I do so love consistency.

I honestly think that if Robbo had been solid earlier he wouldn't have been slaughtered. A player builds up to be heavily criticised when playing badly over a long time.

So nothing strange about that at all really.

Robbo would have been slaughtered because he's made so many mistakes. All keepers make some mistakes some of the time. If Cerny makes mistakes as often as Robbo did then he will also get slaughtered.

I have to say, I think the main reason for our recent upturn in form is having a goalie we can rely upon. I know King is back. I know Huddlestone has done well at CB. I know players are fitter and working harder, but for me, the most important decision Ramos has made was dropping Robbo. It had gotten to the point where every single game he was making really bad errors and you could see that whenever the ball was in our half the team was waiting to see if Robbo would somehow implode.

I suspect that we will be getting a new keeper in the summer. Whether that means Robbo leaving or not, I have no idea.
