I was sick of hearing about Moutinho during AVB's reign. Moutinho this Moutinho that. Bugger me if that was all that was required to fix the problems we were experiencing?

I agree that Moutinho alone wouldn't have solved our problems.

I think the reason that that particular transfer sticks in the craw of a lot of us is that when Harry was replaced by AVB it really seemed as if Levy was showing some serious ambition and was fully behind AVB's vision for the club. it was genuinely exciting. Moutinho was the player AVB wanted to build our team around, and we bungled the transfer despite it looking very likely to go ahead. That moment really filled me with a huge sense of disappointment, because to me it represented the unfortunate truth that Levy wasn't willing to truly back AVB.

I didn't realise there was such an AVB connection to Hulk and Moutinho. Given this, doesn't it seem likely that he would have much prefered these two over two of the other 'randoms'? Say Chadli and Eriksen?

This comes across as a half-baked précis of Burt's article in the Torygraph, which stated very clearly that AVB approved Lamela, Paulinho, Soldado and Capoue; however, Lamela was mentioned in a different paragraph to the other three.

I do hope people posting stuff like this weren't complaining about Harry's mates in the media.

I'm sure he would have preferred them. All in needed was for him to find the extra £50m needed to get them.

All good players. Not unhappy with any of our signings this summer. A little confused by a couple of departures but last summer was as good as it gets for us in terms of transfer business. Just need someone to come in and lead this ridiculous wealth of talent we find ourselves with.

regardless of which signings avb may or may not have wanted, the gulf in coaching shown on sunday was stark. liverpool looked like barca in comparison.

Why didn't he just go and buy all the players from his old Porto team.................obviously they are the only group of players he can actually manage.

he is a respected ITK, close links to the club

A respected ITK is like calling Derek Acorah "A respected medium". ITK's feed the hopes and fears of people who want to believe. People ignore the bits they get wrong and remember the bits they get right which can be put down to coincidence rather than special knowledge. Close links to the club? Proof? Guy could be working for the club but mixing a few bits of harmless inside knowledge to lend the bullshit some credibility.

No idea if any of it is true.

It's probably bollocks but expect people to repeat it as if it were true in the future. If someone is trying to discredit AVB by saying his transfers were bad someone will say "well he didn't even want 4 of them but Levy made him do it".

Levy haggles over the price of penny sweets. Why would he waste £50m on players his manager didn't want? AVB would have given consent for all those players, IMO.

AVB may well have wanted Hulk, Moutinho and Villa. No club - with the exceptions of Madrid and Barca - get all the players they want. Look at United this summer for example. The players we signed were next on the list of targets.

Nonsense story.

Hear hear.

It's also no excuse for aggregate losses of 0-14 to Citeh, Pool, Wet Spam in the league.

All signings are good players .

People talk about the slow movement of the ball, but we all know Moutinho would move the ball faster than Dembele. It's not coaching that makes that difference. That said, I don't know why we haven't tried to buy a player in that mould.

But this is now a recurring problem. Ramos wanted Arshavin, Harry wanted Fabiano then Tevez and Cahill, AVB wanted Moutinho and Hulk and Bale kept and they didn't get them. Levy has a habit of fucking up crucial transfers at the last minute, begging the question is actually serious about him. Now, maybe our managers weren't being "realistic" but is Levy being realistic in expecting continual top 4 contention on a budget?

Liverpool handily outspent us this summer, let's remember.

I'm so sick of everyone (the media, fans of other teams etc) saying that our signings are flops and speculating as to whether AvB ever wanted them or not.

Apart from Chiriches (recently) and Capoue (at the start), how much of these players have we REALLY seen - or more to the point, seen in their preferred positions??

To earmark Eriksen, Lamela or even Soldado as flops is just utter madness.

Moutinho would've been great had he happened - but people, we potentially have 3 Moutinho's in Eriksen, Lamela and even Holtby!!

They WILL come good, i'm sure of it! We just need to give them time and get them playing more - in the right positions.
