As the squad is now with Hojbjerg in we'll have a similar season to last finishing 5th or 6th with no trophies, with a decent RB and striker i'd put us top 4 with a chance of one of the cups. More than that and I think we can finish 3rd and maybe bring home more than one.

4th and a cup would be successful for me, though i'd definitely take a terrible league performance if it meant we won the EL.
Spot on this.

At the time of writing with our current business . Are we going to finish above Liverpool ? Very unlikely. Man City? Very unlikely. Man united? Unlikely. Chelsea? Unlikely. If they sell Zouma to us very unlikely.? Arsenal? It’s going to be close. Leicester? Probably. So by that reasoning I think 5th or 6 th.

With respect, jondy, what you've given us isn't "reasoning".

It's guesswork!

I think some are under estimating us.

Agreed.

On the basis of our form after lockdown; on the basis of Harry Kane, in those few weeks, seeming to have recaptured some of his energy and form from 2-3 years ago; on the basis that we have already filled a huge hole in the squad and seem to be in the process of filling most of the others; and on the basis that Jose is a winner and knows what it takes.......I think we will surprise quite a few this coming season.

As it stands 5th & maybe another final if we’re lucky with injuries
As it stands!! Yeah we would all snap your hand off ! But the window is open for another 6 weeks. Plenty of time to add to the positions we need desperately to fill. Bit early to be worrying about where we might finish.

Well those are my “realistic expectations” a lot depends on what we do in the window, I expect us to be pushing top 4 & a trophy but that all depends on if we sign what’s needed

And lest things change dramatically, we are a million miles off top 4. Chelsea improving massively. City, Liverpool going to get stronger and Utd will improve also . And even the goons looking like they will be a stronger Signing the Lille centre back aswell as willian and the other french defender joining this summer

José was brought in to win trophies. Not to build a project or steward the club well but purely to win a trophy. I think anything short of top 6 plus one trophy is falling short of expectations

Looking at our fixtures in the PL up until a November, I’d like to think that we can have a good start (rare for us). By putting us in the top 3 in the first part of the season, hopefully that will put pressure on our rivals for the top 4, and give us a chance to carry form into the winter section where our toughest fixtures lie.
Admittedly, our busy cup fixtures might derail this, so we will need our full squad to play their part as well as our youth players.

With fans unlikely to be allowed inside our lovely new stadium, we will obviously win everything.

Our problem is that our rivals have all finally got their acts together at once. Top 4 will be extremely tough tbh, but not impossible. Our best chance of a trophy is Europa League, where we will not have to face any of them bar Arsenal. That should be our main focus this year.

I'm not so sure Utd have got their act together.

They're certainly not a shocking team, but they did finish only 7pts above us; a catchable lead.

There's all this talk of signing Sancho, but are Utd realistically going to drop over 100m on a player, in this economic climate? I doubt it.

Anyway, I think there's a chance we overtake them next season.

In with a real chance of 3rd. Utd will continue to flatter without a proper manager. Still not convinced by fat Frank. We will have 5th best squad but Jose makes a difference. He'll go all out for EL and after the top two we're in the mix.

We could finish anywhere from 2nd - 8th let’s be honest. I know Liverpool are champions and played superbly for the majority of the season but yet again they had non existent injuries. This can’t carry on forever and if they have 2 of their main 5 out at anytime, they will struggle.

its of course hard to predict right now as we’re so far away from the full squads. Personally would be more worried about Scum this year, think they’re making potentially smart signings and they looked a much better outfit under Arteta. Frank will have second season syndrome where he will be found out.

Like others have said, I would take a very good run in the Europa and a top 4 fight. For how shit we were at large parts of last season, we were not far away at all.

So many ifs and buts, so all sides who strengthen with quality will do better than those who buy journeymen. Where we fall into this will depend on the replacment of some very average players.

Top 6.

Season is insane with fixture congestion and our squad depth is lacking quality at every position.

This could change come the end of the window...fingers crossed.

First team squad simply looks too small, especially in terms of players JM wants to use and trusts, taking youth aside. The consequence of a stalling of investment on quality players for 3 windows is still there...it won’t disappear overnight. ITK seem to be suggesting it’s one out one in (in that order) for this window, so the numbers won’t improve and we’ll have a lot more games this season; JM likes cup games and that will stretch an already fairly small squad.

If JM gets us top 4 then no one can question he's still absolute top draw given the lack of net investment that will be made. Other clubs above us are investing more.

Jose has always preferred to have a comparatively small squad (by which I mean numbers of players - not their height!). So the important thing isn't to increase numbers but, rather, to improve quality, to fill holes and to have a number of versatile players.

We always do our business late & this season looks no different with the window ending after the season starts, vital we start the season well & fill in the gaps in the squad that are glaringly obvious. Rivals making good additions before the season starts doesn't help matters.
