It didn't even really say it's over, just that it's inactive and could be looked at again in the future. It sounded like we wanted some of theire youngsters but they didn't want to come here for some reason. I don't know why these young Spaniards would want to stay at Madrid once we've come in for them but to each his own, they must be getting bad advice from their agents.

I'd be hesitant to say 'these young Spaniards want to stay in Madrid'. Realistically speaking, I think any youngster would love to play football on the big stage, regardless of the team, as it gives them a platform to develop. Methinks it's a case of Madrid not being forward enough marketing us to their youngsters which just goes to show that this relationship was only ever in RM's favor.

We had a some kids coaches from them for a while - last year my boy did one of the THFC summer school days and one of the coaches was teaching the kids stuff he'd got directly from Zidane.

Good stuff and all that but cold comfort for losing Bale and Modric.

I don't realistically think we benefitted at all from this relationship though

We didn't see any of their youngsters come in on loan, none of their surplus players come our way like VdV had previously.

Anything they could teach us from a marketing point of view would be next to meaningless to us as they operate on a completely different playing field in terms of world wide brand recognition so nothing they do would be directly transferable to us

We weren't involved in any joint ventures or schemes we could have benefitted from our had our profile raised from - not so much as a pre season friendly game between the clubs

Youth development? this is the only possible thing I feel could have benefitted us, and only then because it's something we wouldn't see overtly so its possible that behind the scenes something was done to our benefit. Personally I doubt it very much, I doubt we had any significant input from them from either a development, coaching or scouting point of view.

We only sold them players at a value we could have sold them to other clubs for anyway and frankly my personal opinion is that this whole special relationship with them was basically a bunch of bullshit devised by Levy to save face when selling Modric to them having tried to stand firm for so long about keeping him in the first place (trying to create the illusion of us getting something worthwhile above and beyond the money from the deal)
