It's not about Ange per se if you're comparing to the Brighton model. It's the way they have a settled boardroom/club management with a clear strategy, that irrespective of the manager they have a list of player targets that have been extensively scouted. Even with the manager when Potter got poached they had already identified De Zerbi to replace him.

Whereas we have absolute chaos at club management level... Paratici getting done for fraud, Munn not able to join officially, our board represented by non-football people split as to what direction they want to go in recruitment strategy for both managers and players.
Agree entirely, but that does beg the question how far down the line are we in having an effective recruitment strategy which AP can relate to. If a long way why continue to throw good money after bad.

Out first ever PL line up under Poch was:

Lloris
Naughton Kaboul Dier Rose
Capoue Bentaleb
Lennon Lamela Eriksen
Adebayor

So at least we've made a bit of progress.
Combined current XI with then when all fit and assume Kane is off…

Lloris

Porro/Emerson
Romero
Kaboul
Rose

Bentancur
Eriksen
Maddison

Lennon
Richarlison
Son

about 50/50 now vs then.

Can't believe we have only played two games when every other team has played five or six. It's negligent.
Absolutely, especially having in mind we try something completely different than last year. Feels like we would need way more time on the pitch against opponents who make problems that can not be practiced in training. Coordination of set pieces, defending counter attacks., break down low blocks against tight defenses. You can not do that all in training while facing your mates when you know what they can do and what they can not.

Maybe, with a whole new philosophy having to be implemented, time on the training ground is as beneficial as friendly matches.
It's a lot to learn for the players, after so many years of boreball. :cautious:

We've got a couple yet to go and the joy of having such a mahoosive squad is that we've been able to play inter squad games too.

Along those lines - this is a drill that illustrates the passing patterns we have seen in the first two friendlies.

For those that like to read too much into things - interesting grouping of Son, Richarlison and Solomon in this particular drill....

I saw an interview with the Brighton top man who when asked how they recruted so many good players replied that they spend about a year analysing data, watching performances and talking to player and family to establish character. Interesting I thought, does this mean that we should be waiting until AP has been in charge a year or take pot luck as in the past!
I wouldn't worry, we have departments full of scouts and data analysts working through this kind of thing and understanding far more detailed backgrounds on players than the basic top-level (man down pub style) stats. It's not the sort of thing we bin off when one manager leaves and start fresh with the new guy.
