Ledley was club captain and he barely played. Club captain and match day captain aren't the same thing. Club captain is more of an ambassador role. Kaboul's been here the longest and knows the club well. He seems friendly, popular and affable. I imagine he's a strong voice in the dressing room. It makes sense. I doubt very much it means he's a shoe in to start regardless of form.

One has to assume that one of these three will be playing regularly in Europa League matches. I doubt that we would have a fourth vice captain and I also doubt that Lloris will be playing Europa match's now which means one of Ade or Kaboul will be making regular appearances in Europe and maybe not such regular ones in the PL.

Agree, Vertonghen is a flakey fucker at times.
I think calls for verts are based on him being outfield and more or less a guaranteed starter rather than having the required leadership qualities. I have noticed that If anything ever kicks off younis is one of the first on the scene, particularly when it involves younger players. I don't see verts sticking up for his team mates like this. If we want a more quiet laid back captain then Lloris should be ahead of Jan anyway, a model professional.

I doubt team selections will be based on fitting in a captain or vice captain to be honest, particularly in Europa. Until we progress further I would expect all three to be rested in many Europa games. Someone like Lennon can wear the armband for the day, as he has done a couple of times now I think.

A vice captain who moves in a wall so the ball doesn't hit him - fantastic!! Really one to show the rest how to fight through adversity.
Really hope he proves me wrong as that means we'll be a stronger unit but at this moment in time I'm left scratching my head at this one.

To be honest, on the face of it, Ade does seem odd, but alternatively, he is a player who likes to be loved and feel needed. It's quite a good idea to be honest to give him extra motivation to show up every week and give his best.

If these appointments do end up working out for the good of the club, it will show how much you guys really know about the spurs team! I'm sure poch sees a genuine captain in kaboul...after all, it's poch'so career on the line too

Has the "transfer dispute" situation with Vorm now been ratified?

I definitely feel that when Ade is given extra responsibility he does play better. Whilst still being inconsistent at times he is improving.

My fear is that we have to rely on Kane as a back up due to Soldado's injury/form/out of favour.

I think it's a little early to write Soldado off. I think he would have started on Saturday if it wasn't for the injury. Ade was clearly tired. I think Soldado in Poch's system could tear it up.

IMO, a captain needs to be three things:

1) Intelligent. An extension and voice of the manager on the pitch, understands the players and tactics, and can issue instructions.

2) Composed. Must keep calm and level headed in the heat of the action, be able to deal with situations as they arise and communicate with the referee as needed.

3) Authoritative. Have the respect and confidence of the squad at large.

Out of the players in our current squad, it may well be that Younes fits these criteria better than anyone else. I would personally go with Lloris, but then it's perfectly reasonable to prefer an outfield player to be captain... and again IMO, I'm expecting Hugo to be on his way to grander pastures next summer.

I wasn't writing Soldado off, I hope he is able to adapt and become a huge success.

Its just with Ade tending to blow hot and cold and Kane still very much learning the trade, I would rather have a fit and ready Soldado able to come in and do the job with Kane coming off the bench

Hugo. Regular starter, committed recently to the club, our best player and clearly leads by example. Simples.

I'm happy to have Morpheus as our captain. Unfairly written off by many of our fans it seems. I think the delay was probably about him proving his fitness. The guy missed a season and a half with serious injury, I've seen enough to show me that he is on his way back to full fitness and the form will follow with games I'm sure. I expect the choice was more obvious when training the lads day to day than to us fans looking in from a distance. I expect we will hear that he has a new contract as well in the coming weeks.

I agree but rated funny because of the Morpheus ref. Wondering how I hadn't noticed till now!

I'm not really fussed about who the captain is as I don't think it makes any difference. I'm happy enough for Kaboul to get the honor, though, as he seems a stand up guy. Kaptain Kaboom is a hell of a moniker, too. Someone should get to work on that banner immediately.

I'm not sure where this Ade is lazy thing comes from, either. He runs his ass off every time I see him play and I get the feeling he hasn't shaken the reputation that preceded his time with us. I think he's just grown up in the last few years because 1. People grow up 2. He's been through a lot with Togo and with his brother, etc. Maybe people can cut him some slack. He's played for 4 Tottenham managers now and 3 of them have made him an automatic first choice striker.
