Not my choice for this season but I think Soldado would make a good captain. It's a bit of a worry really that none of our current players really stand out as a proper leader.

Jan or Hugo for me.

Reading this thread really highlights what we are lacking. Leaders of men and a player of real quality that other players respect. Parker, king, berbatov and rafa spring to mind.

Would love a real commanding centre back to come in. But from current squad probably lloris, seems like the only player who consistently performs at a high level

I hope you are not suggesting that being a World class player or an exceptional player automatically make you Captain material.
No, I'm not. But I was kinda assuming that we all know that Lloris has shown his leadership abilities as captain of his country. I assumed that was a given...

Has to be Jan if he signs a new contract. If not then Hugo but also agree a keeper is not always the best choice.

Can't see past those two.

Think it'll be Hugo, personally. Model professional, consistent performer, plenty of international acclaim and he just committed his future to the club.

Dawson will still be number 1 on the pecking order. It doesn't mean that Poch will play him every game but I assure you that if he starts, he will get the armband.

I went for Verts, purely for the reason that, from my experience (at the lowest of low levels), I think a captain is wasted at 'keeper. I'd love to get a Vincent Kompany clone to play alongside Verts and captain the side.

Not sure the captain is such a big deal in football. However you do need people who will help a team keep shape and others with the ability to grab hold of a game. Hugo, my choice, could keep an eye on the overall shape, especially if in defence we keep a high line, and talk to the defence...keepers are usually good talkers. In defence though we need a player who will lead the others to keep their shape. Perhaps overall we just need more intelligence and players aware of not just their job but the overall shape. I think we need everyone to talk to each other, to take responsibility

i am not really comfortable with GK's as captain - its hard to influence play. I'd give it to Vertonghen. Make him grow up a bit. He will do well under pressure.

To us british/irish the captains armband is a huge statement and you look for your captain to lead. Other nationalities dont get it and just have the best player as captain no matter how unsuitable (ronaldo-portugal as an example) or they give the armband to the longest serving player no matter how unsuitable (lennon-spurs last season) I go with the notion that the captain should be the best leader even if they sign an hour before a game whack the armband on them!

For me if dawson is absent it has to be kaboul or kyle walker who is incredibly good at barking out orders.

Lloris may well be captain of france and maybe is leadership is great in french but he offers us no leadership and I dont think he deserves the armband in that respect.

Frankly, we don't know the very detailed inner workings of the team, so I can't see how you're qualified to question anyone's leadership.

I question it from what I see at games both on tv and in person. look at the way the players interact, look at whos barking orders, look at the way when we concede whos got their head up quickest? Whos trying to get their point across?

Ive seen more than enough of the names I mentioned to have an opinion on them be it good or bad.
