I suspect that Poch is only now saying publicly what he's been thinking for some time. Maybe he's also said this to Levy once or twice in their private talks about what Poch needs for the team. Now that the team has returned to England, and Poch has a clearer idea about the strengths and weaknesses of the younger players on the fringe of the first team, we might see things pick up a bit as Levy can devote time and energy to this without having to worry about the US trip anymore.

Eureka!! Finally the penny has dropped.
The difficulty has always been that we have to get in players who are just below the level of the top eleven, but with the potential to reach or exceed their level. Those players may have to accept time on the bench. That's not easy, so it's not about the penny dropping.

Rubbish. It's just a news story with the opposite spin. He never actually says this:

Pochettino fears Tottenham will not be able to challenge for the Premier League title unless he makes signings who can force Harry Kane, Dele Alli and other key players to raise their games.

Read the quotes from him carefully. That's a distortion.

What he does say is this:

In three years, my experience with Daniel has always been trying to find a player to improve. The difference is were they the right or wrong signing? ... The problem is so clear. We are not a club today that can compete with Manchester United and City for a player. We cannot fight. We are in a different way. But the thing is Daniel is very keen to sign like me. These type of player we are talking about they are not easy to find.

That's the same things he's been saying all year. It's just the journalistic spin that differs. So no dropped penny. Just the same policy we've been pursuing since Pochettino arrived.

I'm so bored of this 'it's not easy bs.

It's quite simple. We've already identified 3 or 4 Players that will strengthen our squad, and options to the squad. All that's left to do is get the deals done.

And why aren't they done? Levy and his need to make (on the face of it) a simple deal, a difficult one. And we've heard enough anecdotes and ITK to know this.

Dave, I'm sure you're a lovely bloke, but don't patronize me or take me for an idiot.

Not in the history of football has a manager not wanted players in to strengthen his squad, nor has any manager 'accidentally' trotted out snippets to the media without them having a veiled message to either his chairman, or the fans.

Oh, you're relying on anecdotes and ITK? Righty ho, then: you win; if only more people could think as clearly as you.

I can't comment on your degree of idiocy, but I'm patronising you because your post was idiotic.

Now read my post again, with your brain engaged. Yes. Patronising. Sometimes it's the right thing to do.
Perhaps before wowing us all with your analytical presence you should have taken into account that my initial post might have been an ironic joke.

You obviously didn't.

You have a pipeline into the mind's and decision making at the club then I pressume?

I'm making an opinion based on the limited info we are all privy to. If that doesn't match your opinion or you don't like my opinion, fair enough.

Either way, your opinion is as valid as mine.

Spot on David.

The cunnundrum we have is that to add quality means enticing better "squad" players than we have to come and sit on the bench and wait their turn.

Man Citeh, Pool, Yanited and Chel$ea manage to do this by paying "bench money" or inflated wages as compensation.

We simply cannot afford this nor would i want to see a bench of mercenary players come to our club just to take the gravy and offer little else.

Bringing through youngsters is the second way to do this and we have one of the best coaches in the World at doing this. It takes time and patience, something that some of the self entitled fans in SC don't have the time of day for.

The big difference doing it your way would cost the club £20+ million.

Yes in our eyes getting the players in for the start of preseason might benefit us more, but with Poch preseason gives him the chance to see if the youth level players might be ready for the step up.

We may not be able to financially compete in the transfer market with the rich clubs like Chelsea, City and United but based on the past two seasons we can certainly do so on the pitch with our current squad. Surely this tells us something ?.

Totally unnecessary level of rudeness. Your original post was a reasonable, measured response but as soon as he mentioned 'patronising' in his follow-up, you decided gleefully to open up on him. I hope you enjoyed playing Billy Big Balls; personally I found it unedifying.

This is a forum for us to celebrate our shared love of this great club - anyone using it as a platform to parade their ego would be better served patrolling the comments section of a newspaper

It feels to me like since that City game in preseason Poch is in panic mode, I think he realizes that Alli and the other players are nowhere near their best and I think he realizes it's because they see other clubs active in the market as a sign of ambition to push forward.

I also think selling Walker was a huge mistake and it has probably turned our players heads a little because they have seen him not only go and double his wages but also now just been on the end of a complete spanking from the team he joined.

People kept telling me "It's only a preseason game" but the message from the manager and the players couldn't be any clearer as far as I am concerned.

They are worried, we should be worried as well. We are on the brink of something special and if we aren't careful we will throw it all away in a heartbeat and a new stadium will not do a damn thing for us then.

Healthy competition and better depth is what we need, I completely agree with Poch and if we fail to do this for him then frankly it's an insult to the man, he is the best manager we have had in my lifetime and other clubs would have him in an instant.

You've split opinion there Worcester! (A dangerous thing to do on this site! ;-)
I agree and then tail off in my agreement when you say Levy will now spend more time on it. I agree in that MoPo has had a bit of an awakening in the USA - and really needs to identify how to make the squad a bit rounder with higher quality (and pace) before a very big and tiring season gets underway. He will have a better picture now, no doubt.
But I don't think Levy ever stops looking and that MoPo hasn't already given him an idea of who he needs.
The summer transfer game will continue to be a juggle - new expensive signings freeing up younger talent (I'm surprised (kind of) that we didn't go for Iheanacho - but then again we've held on to Janssen for continuity.
I still think we'll buy to add pace to the team - Someone like Gray from Leicester or a last minute bid for Zaha. I think we're looking for a new Right Full Back too.
It'a a jigsaw and Levy & MOPo have done a great job putting it together to date. They're obviously going to try and improve on it year on year - at least this year we're not all moaning about the first X1 ;-) It's now all about the squad.
Keep the faith!

Bit of a knee-jerk chap. It is pre-season and we were well behind their levels of fitness and desire (rightly or wrongly) - So it was a wake up call - but I don't sense any panic just yet Mr Mannering! ;-)
