What I don't understand is why Poch signed a new contract in May without any evidence of backing, either he was promised something he never got or he was aware that he was going to receive little backing and wanted to secure his future financially either way I'm pointing fingers at both of them.
To be honest the new contract was basically win-win for him either way. Maybe he thought that if things continue to go well he's happy enough to stay anyway, so he may as well get a bigger salary, and if things take a downwards turn it just means he'll get more money when he's sacked. The only real downside is that if Real Madrid came knocking it would be harder for him to leave, but he knows as well as anyone that the Madrid job comes round every 2 or 3 years anyway and he's only young.
In terms of why he signed it, in addition to the above I'd say he was presumably made promises and believed them and wasn't necessarily unhappy at the club at the time. Obviously there were things he'd like to do differently transfer-wise, but if he was assured by Levy that they would be then that may have been enough for him to be happy to carry one.
