Some of the criticisms here is well OTT. The guy is coming back from a serious illness, and I actually thought he had a good disciplined game. I really don’t know what game some were watching
Porn? Maybe it’s just me? :cautious:

I just found that there were opportunities to turn and break the press and /or pass forwards through the lines yesterday which he didn’t take.
he played it safe a lot, which is fine but wasn’t quite what he was doing earlier in the season (when he was top 3 PL midfielder).
Hopefully he’ll get a bit more confidence/fitness back and get back to that level

I think there's definitely an element of slow build up to try draw teams out especially those who sit deep. If we play the high line and go forward too often we risk the counters. Play it back and try draw teams out and then play quickly forward when there's space created in midfield.

I dunno...I can't really ignore this thought in my mind that we should sell this summer while the stock is still somewhat high. Is he really that good?
I'm not trying to have a hot take or anything either. I'm just afraid that for some reason we may not see August-Sept 2023 Bissouma again. Not sure what has happened. There doesn't seem to be any passion or aggression to his play, and to be honest, I'm still rubbed the wrong way that he once said himself when asked who is the best midfielder in the Premier League...mate if you're going to say that you can't go months of missing games from suspension and being average at best.

Apart from a handfull of games at the start of this season he has not pulled up any trees while with us. Conte got the blame last season, now it is injury, suspension and AFCON. I remain willing to give him some time, but I would also be looking at upgrade options.

He played well on Saturday. Teams aren’t pressing him or us as much in that deep midfield area so his ball carrying and his line breaking isn’t going to come to the fore as it did earlier in the season. He hasn’t suddenly turned into a different player. Against the sides coming up in the next couple of months, I’m sure we’ll see more eye catching performances when teams are more on the front foot against us.

Can't go selling or wanting to sell players after they've had or are in a patch of bad form, especially when they've already played so well in the same season and there is still so much of the season yet to play. It's also his first season for us playing with a progressive manager who actually wants to use him.

People have said the same with Romero, numerous times. Shouldn't even be thinking of selling either anytime soon IMO.

Ange kinda dismissed all that though didn't he?
No he mentioned he had it prior to AFCON but it just wasn't that serious. Anyway not too concerned by him personally, he's a quality player who I would pick above Skipp or Hojbjerg anyway. Bergvall will be an interesting one for next season and if Bentancur gets back to his best he will have top competition on his hands. It's all good.

Yeah exactly, the best thing to do is bring in a young 6 like fofana to provide proper competition for places with the aim to push bissouma on. But I guess with Bergval are we going to do that?

Thought Bissouma was fine against Palace and played well. As a unit the midfield didn’t function well with Bentancur struggling to make any impact and Maddison aside from the ball to Romero still some way off his best form. Really think we miss The mobility Sarr brought to the centre and the contribution Porro makes to the play in the middle of the park. Bissouma was the best of the mids on the day.

Thought defensively he was a wall. Shielded perfectly today. Some sloppiness on the ball, but that’s always been in his game. What I’ve been crying out for is some progression to his play with the ball. Those first 10 games he was carrying the ball so well and driving the team forward that way. I thought today his expansive and progressive passing game was very very good. In whichever method he progresses, one way or another it’s a must in that role. I’ll take the loose technical moments if it’s paired with his top defensive game and ball progression, which he showed today. It’s always nice to have a player in that position who can resist the press as well as he can too.

He misplaced just 2 passes in the first half and none in the second. That’s hardly being sloppy on the ball.

Was my motm actually. Did a great job of shielding and covering the defence. Gave us the solidity at the back which gave us the freedom going forward.
