People need to get over this 'Argh but there's no creative midfielder!' as the creativity comes from the wingbacks and forwards in Conte's 3-4-3.

Adding Eriksen would mean we have the option of also going 3-5-2 when needed.

Kante had 1 assist that season. Matic had 7 oddly (hes' never posted another season with more than 4). But I think Bentancur over a full season could achieve that.

bentancur and matic’s profiles are eerily similar. tall, tidy DMs who can stretch the play with accurate diagonals, keep things ticking, are aggressive and are strong in the tackle

Tbh paying over £30m for a player with only a year left on his contract and no experience of Champions League football would be ridiculous.

Certainly not unheard of, but I hadn't realised he was in last year of his contract. That will explain a lot and I guess an opportune time to go after him.

Either way the business we are conducting so far is very promising.

The attacking areas for conte with how he lines the team up are the wing backs and the front 3, with a CM getting forward at times (but job is more to break the play up when we don't have the ball)

Winks won't play much this season or will be sold/loaned out, so having those 4 if we we get them will give us a good squad rotation.

I think conte said last season he plays the main team mostly as he looked at the bench and didn't have many options to change a game! Probably only one or two players he seemed to like/trust to come o.

Agree, we will have much better options to rotate or bring on in games if we need to change it.

It is why Perisic and Spence are important signings too, to offer more attacking threat from wing back. Hopefully Doherty can pick up where he left off too, before his injury.

I believe Conte wants someone that is able to play the Brozovic role, which Winks has clearly not been good enough to do so. Bissouma has many similar strengths as Brozivic with the most essential being both having legs like Bekele. He can sometimes be a bit sloppy with his passes but I can see with Conte constantly reminding him there will not be a problem.

Yep. I wouldn't mind seeing Deki experimenting in that role also. Would need work but he has a lot of the attributes to make it work.

If this goes through, I wouldn't be surprised if Yves has as much impact as Dembele did for us in CM. Aside from Phillips, he was the one CM I wanted the most in the transfer window. If it happens, we'll have a top-4-rated CM depth for the first time in many years.

Dembele was a complete freak of nature. I've not seen a player like him.

I'm not sure a similar player exists.

I see a lot of similarities in Bentancur and Bissouma. Think that will be the preferred pair.

I dont really agree with this logic at all. What you, and others, are saying is that because of Conte's system we don't need players in central midfield who can be creative with the ball because the creativity comes from the wingback?

Surely he wants the creativity to come from everywhere on the pitch? The structure of our play and formation is something very different. Yes, the way we play gives the fullbacks the space to cross and shoot, that isn't creativity.

Creativity is the ability to see a pass, beat a player, resist being pressed to create overloads, spot a run, make space for others with your own movement etc

I reckon that Conte would want players who can create opportunities everywhere on the pitch as long as they can perform their core functions within his system.

I love Dembele, but there is a trend to slightly (and only slightly) exaggerate how good he was. And his first couple of seasons weren't much to write home about. It took him a while to ultimately become the Dembele we all loved. I think Bissouma definitely has the potential to be that in a few year's time. But as with everything, time will tell

I still think a Brozovic type player is needed.

I personally think Bentancour can play this role. He had is best season at Juve under Sarri playing as a regista (basically what Sarri signed Jorginho to do for him at Chelsea).
