I'd still keep Toby, he's not as good as he was a couple of years ago, but he's still a very solid defender.

I'd rather players like Toby and Jan didn't sign new contracts, it's time for us to move on from that team and those players.
As fans we have tendency to want to hang onto our star performers a year or 2 too long which stifles evolution of the next batch

Players know that if they fully commit and give everything under a jose leadership that the best things in football will happen. Toby has always given his all on the pitch and he wants to win. Maybe now he can see a path to achieve that. If toby and jan stay we are much closer as a team of winning things.

Doesn't that sound a bit unlikely? He's been playing 4 years on a contract that is dwarfed by similar quality players at different clubs. I guess he's looking for his final big contract, a massive pay day? And wouldn't that be more likely as a free agent in the summer with sign on fee etc.?

On the other hand, would be a whole lot cheaper for Levy than having to replace him with a new player. Especially if Jan leaves.

I think you’re overestimating how many clubs are a step up from spurs nowadays.

World class stadium and training ground
World class manager
CL regulars
London based

We will still no doubt pay him a very good wage. Where would he go to?

ITK have hinted players who wanted to leave may stay at spurs now Poch has gone. Toby was the obvious one.

Still, he could be looking to players of a similar quality and seeing how much they are earning on free transfers. I'm just speculating, I have no idea what his priorities or the clubs are, but he's turning 31 this season so perhaps we wouldn't want to splash out on the longest contract?

I always thought Toby was the obvious one that Poch wanted gone a long time ago. I'm sure ITK has been saying that was Poch's decision as much as Toby's?

They're still excellent defenders and I don't believe that Jose's football will be as intense as Poch's.

You get rid of them you have to spend big to replace them.

It's far too easy and lazy to say Jan and Toby aren't as good as they were. I'm not buying it. It's quite clear everyone was playing worse under Poch, it wasn't just the CBs. I am pretty sure Toby will be back to his imperious best under Mourinho and it will probably be instant.

Probably as soon as they have signed deals and got fanancial and personal stability for a couple more years.

I'd rather they stayed but not on long contracts. A couple of years to bed in replacements (maybe Tanganga/Eyomah or maybe brought in) would do for me. By then they've earned their free transfers back to Ajax or whatever.

Jan and Toby will be more than capable of doing a job for the next 2 or 3 seasons, especially if we get a good DCM up and running (might be Dier, might not).

Plus it gives us that breathing space to bring in new talent for when they finally leave (and also develop Sanchez and Foyth).

JJ saying Poch was gonna walk if Alder signed a new deal. Will we ever fucking find out what happened
Doesn’t add up that he would be fuming if he signed a new deal yet continued to play him most weeks.

Unfortunately it makes complete sense. Let's not forget that this team selections and choices were baffling at times, and one of the key reasons for discontent in recent seasons.

It makes sense as to why Poch got sacked yes. Of course faith will be lost in you if you’re showing discontent with players behind the scenes yet pick them every week and publicity claim nothing is going on.

Watch how Mourinho will shut West Ham down before half-time. Under Poch, we would be liable to concede.

Especially with a medium block rather than half way line high line, tony and jan both have another 4-5 years in them if they play under Jose
