Best case scenario. There are plenty of games where both Sanchez and Foyth should get a decent amount of games to continue their development. Everyone acts like Sanchez hardly played last year yet he featured in 37 games last year compared to 41 the year before. He's getting plenty of time.

Sorry to pick on you - it's a horribly common error!

The Spurs fan in me doesn't care what Toby did previously to piss Poch off if they have now patched things up.

However, the prevailing human characteristic in me is, frankly, completely desperate to know exactly what happened with Toby.

I just want to know.

So bad.

Don't we already 'know' based on ITK... Asked for a new contract, poch went to bat for him, got him his demands, and then he raised his demands pissing poch off in the process...

Good news that Poch and Toby seem to be on the same page. Making him captain on Sunday obviously a sign of that. With the outgoing full backs it'll be very handy to keep our depth at CB.

As a lot of posters have mentioned, keeping Toby for 1 more season is more use to us than 25mio.

However, poor Danny will be waking up in cold sweats over the situation. ??

Edit: I mean Levy not Rose.

Ironic that we were all concerned about being short changed with Toby's clause yet it seemingly meant nothing in the end

I've never believed that there was ever an issue with Poch & Toby. For me it was clearly the Club VS Toby. We (incl ITK) were fed spin from last year....

1. Toby has played his last game. Poch wants rid.
2. He went back on his word after Poch fought for him.... Want nonsense (worse is so many believed this, granted in the last year a handful of posters didn't buy it)
3. If Toby stays, Poch walks...

I've been consistent in saying there's two sides to a story.. We haven't heard Toby's side of the story.

I've personally believed the club was attempting to push him out the door due to the release clause. Toby/agent have rejected any approaches for what ever reason they see fit. It's not that no clubs have come in for him.

I don't really understand why no team wants him for 25m. And Roma even don't want to match that clause!

Because he Toby Alderweireld has not been keen. How do so many posters not see this. Look at his conduct throughout, check interviews he has given, he has been consistently saying he intends honouring his contract. After the CL final he again commented that he will be here next season.

Even if this was true it’s pretty pointless, nobody came in at £25m and a guarantee of no negotiations with Levy so why would they bother now

If you get to the end of the window and get desperate (United failing to get Maguire, or more likely a foreign club after the English window closes), then they may be willing to pay the premium.

But you're right, the problem is the price + the wages.

It's really disappointing. I'm sure we would have paid him a fair salary 2 seasons ago with a new contract, but he has been counseled that he's worth more. Now he's missed his release clause window, and next season he may be too old to justify the price he wants.

That being said, Toby has to be the most media savvy player in the club. Very genuine and always says the right things. His social media is well curated, too.

I hope that he's always seen himself playing out this contract and returning to Ajax.

Spot on. Supporters keep counting down the days until the clause expires, it doesn’t matter. Toby is going Bosman after this year. According to that Belgium reporter, Kristof, he’s only on £55K/wk and our extension offer was for £90K. Even if that was on a five year deal, he could easily eclipse that with a three year deal and signing on bonus next summer, all while having the freedom and control to decide where he goes.

These Bosman deals are going to be a growing trend.

hes got better as hes got older. And he really doesn't play like hes 32 he could easily play 2 more years
He has been amazing. His performance against Dortmund was one of the best individual performances of the season.

Very rarely makes a mistake and is a proper winner.

Close to legend status for me.

I had this exact suspicion last year. However i would like him to sign a new deal and be here for 3 more years. Would also like Jan to be given an additional 1 year deal. There are plenty games for Jan, Toby and Sanchez. Foyth is still very young and learning.

Herc's latest update however, suggests Toby wants to control his next destination...could be for family reasons too.

I wonder if things have changed enough for him to sign a contract, I doubt it but would love him to sign a 2/3 year contract
