I’ll be very sad if true. He’s been a great servant to the club. As others have said though he is older now and probably time to move on.

At his best, he was the player we missed the most when he picked up an injury. You always felt in safe hands when he started. What a player. Amazing that after 5-6 seasons of his very best, we will still break even. Good deal all round.

It doesn't mean his wife and kids can't go back to Belgium either does it.

I cannot imagine the pressures and rigors of football are quite so much in Qatar. Will probably get home a fair bit.

Great deal for us. Sell him and Sanchez and that would nearly cover full Romero fee which is very good business and allows us to maybe get in another CB

13m is fantastic.

Love him for how good he's been with us, but you have to take that kind of money.

I preferred Jan that Toby but he was an absolutely brilliant signing for us, what a steal he was for the price we paid. Brilliant player and to practically get the same fee back when selling him is great business.

Very good move for him too which will allow him to take a massive pay cut to go back to Antwerp and finish his career there. Rarely a deal works out great for all parties but this one definitely does

This is a fantastic deal, gives Toby the opportunity to earn that last payday and makes perfect financial sense from our side. Wish him all the best in his future.

Would be an amazing deal. Starting to believe the rebuild might actually be happening!

Good stuff finally freshening it all up! Clears a decent chunk of wages as well.. glad he gets his big payday then can return to Antwerp for nothing. Unreal player few years back.. him and Jan for 25-30m combined was ridiculously good business

Fuck me, maybe Paratici is a genius after all.

I don’t really want to lose him but he obviously thinks his time in a top league is over. A shame. We definitely need two centre backs in if he does go.

Think it was less than that! Like a combined fee of £22m. Incredible business.

I mean i'd be gutted if Toby left and Dier Sanchez stayed but if toby and sanchez leave for Romero and Kounde, then thats going to be massive.

Dier can captain our conference team.

Tottenham have agreed a deal for Toby Alderweireld to join Al-Duhail in Qatar.
The Belgium international’s move is subject to agreeing personal terms and flying to the Middle East to complete a medical, which would bring an end to six seasons at Spurs following his arrival from Atletico Madrid in 2015.
Spurs have looked to reshape their defence following the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo as manager and Fabio Paratici coming in as sporting director. They are trying to negotiate deals for Atalanta’s Cristian Romero and have also been in talks with Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu.
There have been expected departures under Nuno, with Alderweireld, 32, among the players Spurs are prepared to sell for the right price.
Antwerp had an approach turned down earlier in the summer over a deal that would have seen Alderweireld return to his hometown, where he played football as a child before joining Ajax’s youth set-up.

Al-Duhail’s ambitious bid to land Alderweireld is closer to the £13million that Spurs have been looking for to secure a player who has two years left on his current contract and played at the European Championships this summer in a team knocked out by eventual winners Italy.
While he would be leaving the high-intensity of the Premier League ahead of the World Cup next season, his Belgium team-mates have remained in Roberto Martinez’s plans despite leaving the major leagues. Thomas Vermaelen is currently in Japan and Yannick Carrasco had a spell in China.
Alderweireld, should he agree to the move, would also be playing in the country hosting next season’s major international tournament. Al-Duhail were Qatar Stars League champions two seasons ago and in 2021 qualified for the Asian Champions League under former Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi.
While playing under Mauricio Pochettino, Alderweireld helped Spurs reach the Champions League final in 2019 where they were defeated by Liverpool in Madrid. He had a season on loan at Southampton before his move to Spurs, where he then on the radar of Premier League rivals, only to commit his future to the club two years ago with a new contract.

He has seen lots of his team mates rake the money in over past 7/8 years in China and probably thought you know what I fancy that one last big payday. Probably wont effect his international chances either with next world cup in mind Martinez was fine with picking players in the Chinese Super league still.
