Used his pace and work rate to recover possession for the first goal. Doubt we see him score more than 3-4 goals for us but he is helping us score some points and will get a decent amount of assists.

Personally thought he was extremely poor today. Basically hid for a lot of the game. Never attacked his full back at all. And you can tell he's absolutely petrified of missing chances, so he kind of holds back from attacking balls that he should actually get to.

As with Johnson he just wants to run away from the ball and is very limited in possession.

Having two wide players like that basically gave the midfield no support to build up play and we had no one out wide who would hold on to the ball, take on their man, draw Everton on to them etc.

We can expect more games like this playing two wide players of this style at the same time. Puts way too much pressure on the midfield to do everything in build up and possession.

One thing I’ve noticed about him is the quality of his passing. He’s so often stereotyped as a pacy wide man but he can really pick a pass and his defensive work is top notch. Of course it’d be great to see him stretching defences every game but for me one of the characteristics of a really good player is to know when you’re not quite at it and so simplify your game and aid others to expand their game. Harry was exceptional at that and I see similar unselfish traits in Timo.
True I’ve been very impressed with his passing especially under pressure.

He’s done well considering he’s been thrown straight into a new team and style of play.

I would like to see him take on his man a little more often.

Im also interested as to how he’d do at RW when Sonny is back so we could field Sonny, Richy, Timo.

Looks like his runs are either being missed or picked up to late. Hopefully a few more games will be more cohesion. Hopefully comes real good
That is the key. If you don't pick out his runs he has little to offer the team.

New article from Kicker about Werner/Leipzig/Spurs.

Too little exchange? Rose cannot understand Werner's criticism.

Timo Werner has been playing on loan at Tottenham Hotspur since January. The attacker has now complained about a lack of communication during his time in Leipzig. To Marco Rose's incomprehension.

Only eight Bundesliga games in the first half of the season: There was rarely room for Timo Werner in the Leipzig line-up; he was only allowed to start twice. Not enough for the ambitious striker, who joined Tottenham Hotspur on loan in the winter. And gained a foothold there again. Werner started in all five competitive games (four times in the Premier League and once in the FA Cup). Even if he hasn't hit the mark yet, he's showing good performances for the Londoners.

“The fun has completely returned,” said the striker in an interview with Sky. "I have changed a lot as a person, I have become much happier. After five games you can say that the transfer was worth it."

Werner makes no secret of the fact that he felt neglected in Leipzig. There was “relatively little exchange” before the transfer.

“During the first half of the season it was clear how the coach thought about me and planned for me,” said the 27-year-old. "Sometimes things no longer fit between people or between tactics and players. That no longer gave me the joy that I felt for a long time." That's why the change was the "right step" for everyone involved.

Rose remembers “many conversations”

Criticism that also went towards Marco Rose. However, the RB coach reacted calmly to the striker's words, who he will soon have under his wing again. Werner's loan ends in the summer, the contract in Leipzig runs until 2026.

"I think I tried very hard for Timo, we had a lot of discussions," said Rose, who described the topic as "very complex".

"I think Timo should be happy that he's doing really well again, that he's playing a lot, that he's performing well. We're happy for him."

He also made it clear that Rose was always willing to talk. "My office is always open to everyone. Everyone knows that. There was an opportunity to have conversations with me. I think that overall we had a good exchange; every player feels it a little differently."

“Be humble” and “assess the situation correctly”

Rose also recalled that Werner had chosen "similar words" when he moved from Chelsea to Leipzig in the summer of 2022. "He should be happy that he's doing the way he is - just like we're happy for him," Rose repeated.

"Otherwise, I think it's also important to pause a bit, be humble, and assess the situation correctly." Werner should "keep going and stick with it. That's good for him, good for us, and then we'll see what happens next in the summer."

Werner himself also wants to recommend himself for the European Championships with the move; Julian Nagelsmann recently decided not to use the services of the 57-time national player (24 goals). “The European Championships played a role,” said Werner, who plays as a winger for Tottenham.

"But it wasn't my main argument. I wanted to find the fun in football again and play exactly this type of football. In the end, that might lead to me being able to take part in the European Championships."

We would be mad not to take up the €15 million option on him. Looks like he has fit right in

Jury is still out for me, he just doesn’t look like a goal threat at all. We need to get away from the idea of getting a good price on players if they aren’t exactly what we want and need. For too long we’ve stocked piled the squad with average players because they were a “great deal” at some point.

Agree. I don’t mind so much that he’s not been a goal threat, but I would like to see him creating a bit more. People keep on mentioning all the intelligent runs he’s making, and maybe at some point something will click. But right now I’m not sure he’s what we need. It feels like we need a dribbler rather than another runner.

On the plus side, he seems a good personality to have around the squad and he brings experience.

Has the same number of assists as Kulusevski who has played 17 more games. Goal threat doesn’t just mean scoring. He’s played 4 games and has definitely looked threatening to me. Tracks back well and brings pace that we don’t really have elsewhere. 15m is a steal in todays market.

Agree about goal threat. I was surprised to see has two assists though. He hasn’t looked like he has created that much to me, but maybe he has been more productive than I am giving him credit for.

Has two assists and also set up Udogie vs Brentford but as Destiny hit a player first it didn’t count, was still good play though.

But if he left leipzig for first team football he won't be getting that here. Although think for €15m it's worth the investment

I’m currently not convinced even tho the price is good. He looks like a good squad player and he’s certainly not been bad but I also feel he’s got a very similar skill set to Johnson and what we need most on the wings is players with more dynamism. No we won’t find someone else as good for the same price but we might find someone better for 5-10 mil more.

All that being said there is still a long while before the end of the season and there is a good chance he goes up a level and proves he warrants a place in the squad going forward. Ether way we shouldn’t make a final decision on him until the end of the season.

In the long term, all these 'great deals' mean players who can't be shifted. The short-term thinking needs to be binned, because it's hurting the club and the team badly.

He’s done ok, especially as he’s been thrown straight into the deep end and started every game having barely played any football for 7 months.

I’d say that he’s done enough to justify the loan signing so far but not enough to justify making it perm. Obviously still a long way to go, but it’ll need to be a significant improvement and crucially he’ll need to chip in with goals consistently too. It doesn’t matter how good the agreed fee is if there’s a risk we won’t be able to sell him on, because at this point in time he’s still an active meme. It will take a lot more than what he’s shown currently to restore his reputation externally and to demonstrate internally that he can still be an asset in 2-3 years time as our quality and ambition increases. Otherwise I’d rather pay a high premium to extend his loan for another season than sign him permanently on the cheap.

He’s got a fair bit of time to prove himself until the end of the season. At the moment it’s borderline whether i’d want to see us take up the option. I’m perfectly happy with him as am Impact sub but he’s not good enough to be our regular starting LWF if we’re serious about challenging.

I would keep one of Werner/Gil/Soloman to leave space for one more key attacker to be signed and I think we're set up top. Aside from maybe one more 10 central. So far Werner is in the lead between the 3. Soloman has to have a run of fitness and do enough to change that. Gil needs a miracle.

We shouldn't keep any of them. None are of the required level.

Well it's not easy to keep signing and selling players though. I think one is fine for competition. I can't see us looking to sign 2 more left sided players in one window.
