I wholeheartedly agree with this but I don't want the rest of our team relying solely on Maddison doing it, others should be stepping up and giving it a go too.
There were a few occasions that Kulu just held the ball far too long instead of the quick pass into space for Werner..

For about long period of time people blamed Soldado's lack of goals on 'the service' he was getting.

Then eventually it dawned on people it was just he wasnt very good.
The first part can still be true? I don't know what point you're trying to make, anyone with eyes could see we should have played Werner in about 5 times.

Also Udogie multiple times.

Hopefully it's just a matter of needing a few weeks training together for people to start picking out Werner's runs.

I think hes another one that's not at the level needed.
This is so lazy.

1. he’s played 2 games for Spurs.
2. Our recruitment for the last couple of years has been exceptional, so what do you mean ‘another one’?

It’s very boring how this happens. Son, Kulu, Porro, Vicario out of our current first 11 all written off within minutes.

None of which played in the Prem for 3 years beforehand and were largely crap.

I think we need to bring in 2 really top draw players for the front 3 in the summer. A WF and a CF.

I do see where you’re coming from but I doubt we have the money for that unfortunately so we won’t get much better value around than Werner.

Perhaps if we sold Richy we could mabye buy : Werner, Nusa and a top draw ST like Vhalovic or the Feyernoord striker but I do also agree with posters above who’ve said your analysis is a bit ‘lazy’, Werner has played 2 very difficult matches for us with most of our best supplying type players missing and tbh he’s looked fairly good.

Seems like a great character too.

For £15mil I’d like to see us sign him but I also agree with you that in addition to a Werner we need to sign 2 top attacking players.

I think the juries out either way. We shouldn't be signing anyone just cos they're 15m.

Commentators kept mentioning the runs yesterday but what I saw was him mostly running offside in advance of people being able to release.

Still very early for him so will wait and see what happens with him before judging

Pretty much got ignored for most of the game out on the wing, was making some good runs, trying to start runs, trying to run onto through balls....... but most of the time nobody played the ball. Why have him and Johnson out wide.. who have great speed, if you're not going to take advantage of it.

@BorjeSpurs posted a video on page 57 of him making those exact runs. There's 5 or 6 where his team mates definitely should have played him in. He was definitely not offside when they should have passed

Depends what you mean.

If we get Nusa then I think 2 out of Gil/Solomon/Werner need to go simply for good squad management and to avoid bloat.

On that basis he's clearly at the level needed; to be joint-5th-in-line for the front 3, along with either a young prospect (Nusa) or Johnson, and easily might be the best of those 3 choices.

Though foregoing the option to purchase is obviously way easier than a sale.

Indeed, and more annoying was the fact that in several of those situations, the reason he wasn't offside was that a colleague on the other side of the pitch had made a parallel, deeper move, pulling a defender beyond Timo. It looked very well organised, but we couldn't take advantage. I was spilling lager all over the place!

Would love to have seen his runs found. He really does find space well and is dangerous high and wide. Think with Maddison and a more settled midfield, we find him more. I thought Hojberg was our best player yesterday, but he does not see the early balls, that’s not a strength of his (I’m a fan of PEH) - and both Bentancur and Kulu were off it. It happens.

Let’s see, but based only on two games, I’d exercise the buy option. Thankfully we don’t have to make the decision now, and have the rest of the season to see how he progresses.

Looks good IMO. Probably will come on once Son has run his legs off pressing, and continue in the same vein. Needs a goal, will give him a real lift.

Tbh he should be the upgrade on Solomon. Soon as we start getting him through balls, he will be far more devastating than Solomon.

I'm sure they'll get to it on the training pitch. I suspect that at the moment they're just counting the days til Sonny returns, but we need to use Timo differently and he could be a good option if Sonny's going to play through the middle.

Possible that players held back from releasing Werner because of Walker. Walker has a reputation for leaving space and inviting through balls so that he can race back and sweep them up. The one time Werner was played through, Walker handled it pretty easily.

There was another time he was played through and got a first time cross to richarlison but was just snuffed out by one of the centre backs. Otherwise it would have been a replica of johnson to richarlison in a couple of games this season (except from the left)
