Ange is winning games with half a side, has us in a title race despite missing key players for months and STILL people question him. Blows my mind tbh

Not sure what some were expecting, no team lets their top striker leave in January. He fits the bill, can play all across the front line, works in this system and on a loan there is literally nothing to lose. Either he does well and goes back, does well and signs to add to the squad depth, or does poorly and goes back.

He did poorly at Chelsea but so do most players, Salah and De Bruyne being key examples.

People also need to consider how far down our depth chart we are currently. We have 4 senior front 3 players for 3 spots, one of whom (Kulu) we'd ideally use at 10 but literally can't at the moment because Gil simply isn't good enough. How many of our current squad would you be happy to see start in the front 3 without considerable drop-off? It's not enough - and Werner adds to that count.

I look at it this way.....if he went to Arsenal to fill their need for a striker for 6 months, I'd be concerned that he would be the difference in them finishing above u/top 4 or not.

No one is saying hes prime R9, but he would add goals, pace, and options for Ange. And we have seen if players feel the love, they tend to perform to, or close to, their potential.

IMO smart bit of business to see us over the line this season.

I love these signings that come out of nowhere. No idea if he is a good fit, but our recruitment has been fairly good so just have to have a bit of faith.

I’m choosing to be optimistic about this one. I watched him tear us a new one for RBL in the Champions League just before Covid, was so impressed and gutted when he went to Chelsea. Now that was 4 years ago but if Ange can get some of that out of him I don’t see a risk here.

14 games 2 goals 1 assist across all comps

14 games this season in all tournaments... 2 goals. 1 assist... but he hasn't been a regular starter. A mixture of starting 11 and sub.

Edit: he's also been injured for 5-6 games.
386 minutes. It's mainly as a sub. A goal or assist every 126 mins isn't as bad as its made out saying 14 games. A league goal every 102 mins.

It's an absolute no risk transfer. We weren't getting an elite forward in January. I'm surprised we are getting a forward fullstop

I’ve watched a lot of him, especially when I lived in Germany. As a loan I think it makes a lot of sense…. A good pact option to have.

Absolutely love Ange but I’m concerned about his judgement in attackers so far.

This is an absolutely shocking signing and doesn’t fix any of our issues. Can’t finish as a striker, no technical ability and can’t dribble as a wide player.

This stinks of when we signed Nelsen and Saha in 11/12 despite being right near the top with a chance to push for the league title.

And in fairness we can also say Ange chose him but what if the options presented to him are all shit?
Can I just say I’m shocked that you don’t like the idea of us buying someone who can cover LW who isn’t an out an out dribbler 😀

We haven’t been playing one all year and stylistically Werner is lot closer to Son than any of the other options we have for LW. He’s quick, likes to cut in and shoot with his right. Of course he isn’t anywhere near as good, but that’s why he’s available on January. He’s a better option as a Son replacement than Gil or Brennan (who needs to be on he right)

Is he not the exact same profile as Brendan Johnson aren’t we pretty much buying someone with the same weaknesses the Brennan has? Bit weird
Well firstly, since have zero depth up front right now even if he was the same it’s not a bad move on a loan. And second he really isn’t like brennan at all - can play through the middle, and much more of an inside forward coming off the left, comfortable coming in and shooting off his right foot

At Chelsea, Werner rarely had support around him. Him being only presence in box, more he missed, more pressure went on him

Way we play, we will get bodies in box. So, invariably even if misses another one can slot it in.

To be fair, prime Richarlison is a high bar to reach 😀

Meh, not the biggest fan. Hopefully he can do the job especially now that our League of Extraordinary Hamstring Breakers keeps accepting new members.
