He's so badly suited to this system. He's not a hug the touchline winger and he's not a CF. Where does he play?

I love Son, he has been a legend for this club but think it’s time for us to move on.
More times than not, he is playing a 5 out of 10 performance but because he is a great finisher, scores a goal and the 80 minutes he was awful is forgotten about.

We need 11 players all performing and he is becoming increasingly the most guilty of giving up possession and feels like we’re playing with 10 men most games lateky

He isn’t suited as a CF neither LW in Anges system, so for me we need to sell or he needs to be an option from the bench.

I agree, but at least switch with Johnson or Werner at times. Just don't leave him there when he's clearly struggling, he's just wasted.
I don't think either Johnston or Werner would do a better job than Son up front personally.

He's never been a proper #9 and as soon as he goes back to playing on the wing people will remember he doesn't fit playing there either anymore, unfortunately I think he's a bit washed and has too many deficiencies to be at the very elite level anymore. Shame Ange has clearly told him to not shoot from outside the box much because that was another element of the game he was/is elite at that could help cover some of his short comings.

I actually think us loaning out Veliz may have been a mistake. I know he got injured but he would at least have been an option from the bench while Richarlison was out but I guess hindsight is 20/20 and all that.

They ain't good alternatives, but the options are limited. Try anything other than Sonny as CF in these games
Yeah but why weaken us even further by swapping him for players that will in all likelyhood do a worse job than him up front? I don't understand.

Poor again, you need more from your club captain on derby day.
Not for the first time he talked a good game in the press before today but unfortunately didn't deliver. So frustrating seeing either the ball bounce off him or a defender just take it from him. Richy has to start as CF with Son on left. Genuinely never want to see him play that position again

You think they'd weaken us that much more today? I don't know, maybe. But just alternate maybe, give it a try. All I know is Son is a spare part as CF in these games.

Perhaps now is the right time to accept a big offer from Saudi ? He isn't going to get any better and his contributions to the team seem to be tailing off.

Love Sonny but he is definitely in decline. That fantastic skill he had of scooting along the edge of the box and belting a lovely curving shot into the corner has gone from his game. He can't hold the ball up very well and is easily knocked off the ball. We need to look at ways of repurposing his remaining skillset for the rest of his career here.

If we spent 100m on a new striker and he had 16 goals and 9 assists in 30 matches plenty here would be at least ok with it. Not sure what Ange has in plan for him, if he goes on left wing then he has to modify tactics since Son definitely will cut inside and score goals. Udogie can go wide but it means less people in midfield so modifications needed. As a number 9 he can't shield the ball so we need more creativity in midfield to find his runs. Kulusevski becomes more useful and gives us some physicality then but he is too slow if he is the one out wide. Just based on stats this will be his second or third best season ever for us.

Seems bizarre to me that Son basically spent his entire childhood controlling the ball...

I don't know if his career was basically him rebelling against his dad or if his dad saw this weakness and set up a control based academy just for his Son( Son ;) )but it doesn't add up.

Will always love Sonny but he just isn't the guy to be the main man and bring others into the game, has no appreciation for the timing or weight of lay offs.

Only time he's good now is when teams are high up against us and he can be played into channels with an isolated defender (which is basically never)

I think he’s just knackered, I don’t think he’s passed it, or that he can’t work in this system. He (like a lot of players) has just had too many games in the last few years. A good break in the summer will do him the world of good.

He is, has been and likely always be quite streaky as a player. That doesn't help too much at all if he is playing central.
I thought his touch and all round play against Newcastle was a massive factor in that defeat
