Phillips is not an upgrade on PEH. No pace not especially athletic continually passes sideways never looking for aggressive forward movement with the ball. On top of this he thought Pep would be impressed by turning up for pre season training overweight. i would rather wait till the summer for a better option

I’ve said it multiple times. I don’t rate Philips. He’s got “English premium like Drinkwater” all over him.

Looked class at Leeds to me, better range of passing and more mobile than PEH, cannot believe so many agrees and so few disagrees with the statement that Phillips isn't an upgrade on PEH, if we got Leeds form Phillips he absolutely would be an upgrade on PEH.

Massive IF. The guy has hardly played in 2 years and couldn’t get into the city side when they had multiple injuries/suspensions in midfield.

He is 100% an upgrade on PEH.

Is he a long-term upgrade? 🤷‍♂️

But, if we do this deal, it seems likely it's going to be a loan - similar to Werner. Try him out - and then reassess in the summer.

is there any bad blood between both sides? City was rumored to have made a low ball approach over Kane and obviously it would have taken an haul for the Spurs to let him go with 2 years in his contract, at 28 years old to a Premier League club. Phillips is a vastly different case. don't think that saga affects this whatsoever.

City blew a huge chunk of money on Grealish and then tried to low ball us for Kane when we had no pressure to accept. Can't see any reason for bad blood.

I can't imagine there is any bad blood from that.

If City had wanted Kane, thy could have had him. They wanted Grealish, and knew they were going to be in on Haaland the next summer - so Kane was not a priority for them.

There is one thing with hojberg that I think people underestimate. While his passing is not amazing he does try quicker direct passing than most.

I think that’s why when he comes on second half of games he’s more effective as the other team can’t tracker the runners as well.

we don’t want a sideways passing midfielder and while I don’t love CG he does try the direct passes too.

Looking less likely as a sale right now. Has numerous possible suitors as a loan with an option. No one as yet willing to talk about a loan with an obligation. His preference is Juve, but they are strapped and we think less likely to take up the option so would prefer the alternatives. Clubs in Italy, Spain and Germany have shown/are showing interest.

Not surprising really. Unless we do a trade i don't see Juve buying him now or in the summer. They don't have 20 mil to spend on a player and are struggling to renew the contracts of the players they do have. Shame no teams want him in the PL as that is probably the only place we might get money for him. Problem is I can see it being the same situation come summer, no club in Europe will want to spend money on a player they can sign for free in 6 months.

Would shifting Perisic off the wage bill early enable us to sign another midfielder in Pierre isn’t movable? Or is there the possibility that he signs another contract in the summer?

I’ve never understood the With Obligation bit. Is it just a way of delaying the payment?

Not a fat lot of other options unfortunately. Obviously that is far from ideal but neither is keeping a player who wants to go and we don't see in our future.
Would mean though there is cash available to bring in a replacement? Unless that would be a loan with obligation/option also.

Obviously he is not a perfect fit for Ange but with Lo Celso out and Pape and Biss on international duty and the question marks over the fitness of Bentancur it looks like we could do with him until summer.
