One of my best mates was shot twice, in the shoulder and arm, when on tour in Afghanistan, others haven’t made it back or just aren;t the same after going to war.

The use of the word warrior in respect of footballers is wrong. They run around a nd kick a fuckign ball whilst being paid millions.
I think you're over thinking things.
Stevie B was a hero against Leicester but that doesn't mean he's being compared to a firefighter saving kids from a burning building, it's about context etc.

What words would you suggest we should use, instead of warrior, brave, hero etc?

From Conte's presser:

I have seen the video because Anthony [Spurs' press officer] showed me. For sure I was celebrating with all my players. He didn't see me. Then we have recovered in the dressing room because we celebrated with him and all the players. Pierre is another important player for us, he's young but he's experienced and now with Bentancur we have implemented the midfielders, Winksy, Skipp, players I can count on.

Much ado about nothing. Carry on.

Well, I was in the army and served in a couple of nasty places. My son was a bomb disposal officer and served in NI, Falklands, two Gulf conflicts, the Balkans and Afghan. The regiment of which he was the CO in Afghan suffered three deaths and eleven horrific injuries. Neither he nor I throw out toys out of the pram over the use of the word warrior to describe a footballer. It's all about context.

Respect to you, my opinion is the use of that word in that way degrades people who go to war. The fact we can say midfield general or captain isn;t the same. Esle I’d be on about weekend sailing captains, captain fucking birds eye and that crappy drill rapper

I’m a big fan of this guy. Works really hard, wants to win. I think we could do we one other quality midfielder at the level of Bentancur. But Hojbjerg will play an important role at Spurs next year and beyond as we play in multiple competitions.

It just doesn't, you're being absolutely ridiculous. Don't even think I've heard the word warrior used in the context of war since ancient greece either.

We have one.

He’s called Skipp.

I'm sure the lads that I know in the armed forces would hate to be referred to as 'warriors'. They'd probably be rather embarrassed, or just take the piss.

How someone can take offence at a footballer being called a warrior is beyond me.
It's almost like people go out of their way to find offence in everyday things.

Have you served in the forces, or gone to war?
Or are you just taking offence on their behalf?

Working with soldiers with PTSD (having retrained so i could do some good rather than carry on being a management consultant), one of my best mates was shot up in Afghan.. hope that passes your test

..and to be honest, enough of this shit. cheers all

So basically you're offended on their behalf.

And you know that they would be offended by people referring to a footballer as a warrior?
Or would they really not give a toss.

I can say that the soldiers and sailors I know wouldn't care less, let alone manage to be offended by it.

It does seem like a rather odd thing to get wound up about, I mean, people have been using that phrase with regards to footballers for donkeys and I've never seen anyone get a cob on about it before.
