Not sure I agree with all of those, but even if I did, it would hardly change the point? I could list dozens of players who started badly and stayed so.

True, because we've signed a lot of bad players.

But of a lot of our best players have started slowly or badly and were also written off.

As others have said he's a winger / wing back, not a full back.

We're not seeing the best of him as he looks overwhelmed defensively, but he's excellent going forward.

Time will tell, but I believe with a full pre-season and he'll be fine.

Yeah I wonder merits of switching Romero to middle and putting Sanchez on right.
it really depends on the set-up, and not every manager plays a back 3 with the same tactics.

But, under Conte it would not have worked, since he wanted the RCB and LCB to be more aggressive and defend and attack higher up, while the CCB sat a little deeper and was less aggressive.

Another manager could flip those roles - where the CCB played a little further up, and was more aggressive, while the outside CBs played a bit deeper and more conservatively.

He will come good. I'm not worried about his lack of defending at present; it will come. It's alot easier to learn to defend than to attack.

I remember most on here thinking Ricardo Pereira was one of the best RBs in the league before his injury, but his first season at Leicester he was great going forward but a disaster at the back and it took him best part of a season to sort that out. Give Porro time and then judge. The PL is one of the hardest leagues in the world to adapt to at the best of times and he has come into a complete mess of a team.

I think he showed really good signs. I hold Romero more accountable for the 1st goal..I think he will come good.

Also he was trying to get the crowd up.that’s what I like to see

👀

Don't write him off so soon, he was class for Sporting. Our whole squad is currently playing terribly so it's stupid to judge him.

Just give the lad time! People wrote Kulu off after 2 games and he was then brilliant for a long period. Kulu will be great again, just needs some confidence.
💯 spot on mate great post

Surely it’s already apparent that he is one of our best technical players in the squad? His issues thus far has been defending and decision making on the ball.
So blocking, tackling, intercepting, 1v1 defending aren’t techniques?

They are fundamental techniques for out of possession.

Lol, this stems from you questioning @Flobadob's comment on technique which he used in the context of attacking wingback play and finishing. Should we ask him if he meant the technique of 1v1 defending?

I think most are in agreement that he is exiciting offensively but that he need to improve defensively.

Took the goal very well and I'll reserve judgement for a little while but...

The guy is clearly an attacking RWB and there were at least 3 or 4 crosses flashed across the face of goal last night that I would've expected an attacking RWB to be on the end of, or at least bust a gut to get to, and he did not.

I know confidence is low and he's probably being cautious due to being fairly shaky defensively since arriving but... if you can't bloody defend, at least effing attack!

Think there's a decent player in there and, if we actually had 3 solid CB's, I'm sure we'd be seeing a lot more from both flanks.

Wishful thinking but next season I'd like us to have a traditional fullback on each side - Royal and a new signing - along with the 2 two attacking wingbacks in Porro & Udogie, which would give us the flexibility of switching between 4 and 5 at the back.

Anyways, I hope the goal gives him a confidence boost and he continue to see more from him.

That was some finish last night. I do think that on the manager front, we need someone that can use wingbacks or a wingback in a lopsided system like Nagelsmann for us to see the best of Porro.

Poor buggers getting slaughtered 😆… he’s probably still living out of boxes at home … when he’s bedded in & comfortable he’ll come good. A little reminder of what he can do

It really gets to me why this has to spelt out time and time again.
