Shame they lost yesterday though, that was a big game for them as well. Skipp taken off just before the hour when 2-0 down.

There seems to be a lot of pressure growing that Skippy will be the man to make a difference to us next season.

Just a word of caution, i remember when people were proclaiming Harry Winks to be our saviour and the next Modric.

The buzz around Winks was never at anything like the same level that it is for Skipp.

Skipp is a much more rounded player and has more in his locker. He's also a year ahead in his development compared to where Winks was at the same age. He will hopefully have a whole season behind him of being one of the key and best performing players for a team competing at the top of the Championship.

That's not to say that he's guaranteed to be a success at Spurs. But it does mean that there is considerable substance to back up the high expectations.

Im going to disagree with you there. Seeing as youve only been a member on this forum for 6 months i can forgive you for not knowing the ridiculous clamour for Poch to play him at every opportunity. When he got injured against Burnley that day we had people declaring that our title race was going to be over because of it. Winks definitely had the same hype surrounding him as Skipp.

Harry Winks at just 21 was putting in MOTM performances vs. Real Madrid's midfield of Kroos and Modric before his ankle injuries. Skipp is 20 playing CM in the Championship. I think the hype was a lot higher around Winks.

Coming up through the youths, Skipp seemed to get more hype. We did have some on here surprised at winks rise to the first team.

But for me it's not about hype, or who was better at 21.
I haven't seen a huge amount of Skipp, but he looks like he will fit into this team a lot better than Winks or Sissoko.

And that's a very low bar he has to jump.

Winks was killing it in 16/17 but unfortunately it's not about where you start, it's where you finish.

Winks has done nearly everything to suggest he's finished here. There's still hope for Skipp.

Jump? More like slightly lift his foot to step over it!!! ?

I've only been posting on here for six months but used to post years ago from an aol email address. For some reason, as I subsequently discovered, this website's software suddenly took a great dislike to aol email addresses and I started to have a lot of difficulty signing in. And on the occasion that I could eventually sign in, the site would run incredibly slowly or crash for me altogether. So I gave up posting. But carried on lurking. It was only recently that I tried from a different email address and.....bingo.

I agree with you and Monkey boy that there was a lot of hype around Winks 3-4 years ago - especially after that Real Madrid performance. But I was referring to their relative reputations at youth level. Skipp was always much the higher rated of the two. Ask any of the regular youth team watchers on here.

And now that Skipp has proved himself - and how - at a very good level in senior football, he is showing that the hype wasn't entirely unjustified, at least. There is no question that he has more strings to his bow than Winks. What that eventually translates into is anybody's guess but I don't think it's unreasonable to believe that his contribution to Spurs' first team will be more sustained and more substantial than Winks'.

Hope!
Oh no.
He's doomed, doomed I tell you.
What have you done.

Winks regular Premiership player for several years.
Over 100 appearances.
Represented England at every level
Where' the hype?.
Only if judged against wild expectations.
He is having a good top class career.
Skipp will do well to match it.
But give the boy a chance

If you are going to compare Winks and Skipp to make a point, and granted that’s not entirely unfair, I think it makes sense to toss Carroll into the mix. Carroll - very big hype, ended in the Championship. Winks, not as much hype, but is arguably a big upgrade on Carroll. So that’s to say, it’s possible that Skipp will be the best of all of them. Maybe he won’t become Modric type of big player, but it’s not that far fetched that he might replace Winks/Sissoko.

getting loads of great reviews again today but seems he suffered a potential concussion and was allowed to play on for another 10 minutes before finally going off

More pressure on Skipp because no one wants to see Winks or Sissoko. There was some pressure on Winks to replace Dembele but now we’re more desperate.

He's good(better numbers than Winks this season too)

Hojberg is very similar on the Prem mapping from a couple of months back. Not sure if anywhere has these maps up to date? Sissoko was properly in the bottom left quadrant by contrast.

I don’t think it is so relevant to compare Skipp as a youth to Winks as a youth, as different players develop at different rates. Danny Hill had more talent in his little toe than every midfielder we’ve broken into the first team since, but never made it.

Far more relevant to compare Skipp now to Winks now. In Winks we have a player who, barring the odd appearance, hasn’t performed to an acceptable level for a long time, despite his promising start, and is now 25. Skipp, however, is running the midfield for the best side in the league below at 20, so potentially could step up and do the same in this league. He could not be able to make that jump, but the signs are good and if he was doing this in France, which is about the same level as the Championship outside the top 2-3 clubs, we’d be clamouring to sign him before he exploded into the scene.

If we have him, Ndombele and Højbjerg to pick from next season, and Lo Celso can get/ stay fit, well have very good CM options and keeping one of Winksokko as reserve wouldn’t be inexplicable. I could actually foresee Skipp getting as many minutes as the current main two, partnering either of them depending on opposition, as he’ll be coming in with buckets of confidence which sets him up nicely to hit the ground running.

Something similar at this moment - but I'm using FBref, not Wyscout as a data source. Wyscout defines minimum 10m as progressive, FBref(StatsBomb) is using 5 yards, hence the massive difference.

He played 93 minutes in another win for Norwich tonight four points clear of Brentford and their next six games contain Brentford and the bottom four clubs so they can really put some clear blue water behind them.
Oliver Skipp could be coming home with a Championship winners medal in his pocket.
