I’d like to see us start the season with…

Full backs > Porro, Emerson, Spence Udogie, Sess,.

Centre half’s > Romero, Dier, Tapsoba, VdV.

Think that’s enough for the amount of games we will have this season.
A good mix and a few that can cover more than 1 position.

Haven't been on this weekend. Are we accepting that we're not taking a new CB on tour then ? If so , that's abit pants

We have a different manager who’s focus is not making the team sit in and defend. Playing on the front foot asks different questions of defenders. It’s hard to say how Dier and Davies will adapt. And Lenglet, has won league titles and cups at Barcelona playing in a front foot, possession based team, he will be fine as backup.

Barca are desperate to get rid. Primarily because he cannot play in a highline defence.

Like this but I'd sell Sess & keep Davies as the cover. I'd sell Dier too if we got an offer

Think we need them for HG numbers and both have had some decent games for us in the past. A lot for them to improve upon from last season though and I can
understand why many want to get rid.

edit I’d keep Sess over Davies, don’t think he’s good enough in a 4 in either position and is getting on a bit now - I could see Sess doing really well under a new coach, remember a NLD derby not so long ago when he had Saka in his pocket, also offers more going forward than Davies for me.

Dier or Lenglet as 4th choice back up's. Pretty expensive back up's also you would have to question their ambition at this stage of their career. Does'nt make sense, would prefer a young player with potential as 4th choice CB more so for succession planning.

Dier will be fourth choice back up. By all accounts he wants to stay and fight for his place. He’s also a valued squad member in a squad that is rapidly losing senior players it makes sense to keep him around for the final year of his contract.

Yes top clubs who have European football to offer more matches and more opportunities of rotation. Without that I just don’t see any manager wilfully rotating centre backs unless there is some major issue with us conceding goals.
Romero won’t play every match and we will still have busy times in the fixture list, we should absolutely have 3 top CB’s, relying on just 2 is asking for trouble.

Now the Q is would Tapsoba or VDV be open to joining knowing they might not be a guaranteed starter but if they’re both up for joining and we can afford it then we should go for both and let those 2 and Romero battle it out, then ideally we have a HG option as 4th choice.

Dier doesn't suit a back 4 anywhere. We could really do with the versatility of VdV and Tapsoba.

If he wants to see out his contract, we can't 'get rid'. Even if we wanted to terminate his contract, he doesn't have to agree.

that’s fine but equally he needs to accept he won’t be playing much. We should have 4 Centre back of decent quality, we have Romero, Davies is really a left back so that means at least 2/3 CB’s to come in by close of window.

If Dier stays then he can stay as emergency 5th choice but ideally Dier, Sanchez, Tanganga and Rodon need to be gone. They are not good enough and have shown that under multiple managers now.

This comes down to us being a top team, a top team will find a way to fix what is the glaring hole in the squad. Are we a top team or are we pretenders.

A valued squad member in a squad that has down tools for about 4 seasons... squad needs gutting and new proper leaders

It really isn’t. Our ‘busy periods’ will only be a few mid week league cup matches around Xmas time. Rest of the time it will be one match a week, maybe two during a few midweek prem fixtures.

If the club have fully scouted Tosin and feel he can do a job as a third choice backup I really don’t see what the issue is.

Downed tools? I’ve never seen that. Lacked consistency and form, or in the case of last season played with an injury, but he’s never downed tools imo.

Not fixing the CB situation would be such a stupid move by the club. We have mostly decent quality in other parts of the squad but you build from the back.

If we get just 1 top CB then Romero gets inevitably injured we are back to the circus clown show again. 2/3 CB’s isn’t much considering what other teams are doing in the market. Fixing CB will give us confidence going into next season. 2 CB’s of good quality should be bare minimum for us in this window, ideally it would be 2 CB’s, a top midfielder and a third prospect CB as well but 2 CB’s and we can really look forward to next season and give Ange a good team to work with, we are not far off a decent squad in my view if this is fixed.
