The problems with VDV or Tapsoba for me is they are young and coming into a new league where they will be immediately expected to perform as a starting CB.

They both seem like real prospects but I really would like us to sign a more established proven CB plus a prospect.

My ideal would've been Laporte plus one of Guehi/Tosin/VDV/Tapsoba. Laporte seems to have gone quiet...Pau Torres? Gleison Bremer?

They all seem like expensive options but we need to spend as a function of us only having one CB of sufficient quality...years of neglect has led to this siutation.

I do feel spedning £40-£50m on players like Tapsob or VDV would be a huge gamble.
I think that's valid - but as we've seen every transfer is a gamble.

I certainly agree on Laporte but let's be honest we were never going to get 2 high priced CBs.

Yes. As far as I can remember, it's always been in Jan-Feb.
They moved it to summer a number of years back. But they've held it in January a few times since as the host country couldn't hold it and/or the the summer is bang in the middle of rainy season.

After D1s info in the ITK thread I'm hoping we want both Tapsoba and VDV(2.0). Possibly even Tosin, Lenglet or Carter-Vickers as a 3rd if we shift enough. Struggling to see where else we would go with signings position wise outside of a total defensive overhaul.

I can't be the only one who really hopes we don't go for Lenglet

I don’t have an issue with him as a squad player . Just don’t want him playing 30 odd games as a starting player .

in his defence I don’t think it helped his cause having perisic to the left of him pretty much every game. He was left hopelessly exposed in some games

I'd like him. I just like us having absolutely rapid players. Son, Walker, Lennon. Nothing better than seeing them breeze past players. A CB with great pace is such an asset, VVD at Liverpool in his peak and Varane at Real Madrid were almost impossible to get past.

If we can get 2 CBs in, my preference (with a bit of realism applied) would be Tapsoba and Adarabioyo from the players we've been linked with. Can't say I'd be too disappointed with Tapsoba and Van de Ven though. Adarabioya looks really composed and has the EPL experience under his belt, plus I think we might be able to unload one of ours in return.

Tapsoba and Van den Ven, I assume, would be a push financially. Van den Ven solely plays LCB, but Tapsoba, like Adarabioyo look comfortable at RCB or LCB.
So for me Van den Ven and one of Tapsoba or Adarabioyo, ideal. Tapsoba appears the higher rated, but I suspect, like you, that we could work a player into an Adarabioyo deal, and also help our HG quota.
Sami Mokbel suggested on the LWOS podcast last night that Dier may stay, or at least that he was looking to stay and earn his place.
Would Romero, Tapaoba/Adarabioyo, Van den Ven and Dier be a bad stable of CB’s?

I'd rather have a player like Adarabioyo who can play either side in all honesty. He also looks more composed on the ball than VdV from what I've seen. As long as we get Tapsoba though I can't say I'm too bothered.

Any 2 from that 3 would be an upgrade, I just like the balance of a natural left footer if we’re going to be playing out more. Toby & Jan was the best balance I’ve seen in my time really.

Van de Ven would give us a LCB with a lot of potential but who is still quite raw and won't immediately elevate our backline. He will make quite a few mistakes imo and will take a couple of seasons to develop.

Where as Tapsoba would elevate us immediately for me and has more experience at a higher level too including the CL.

If we get both then that's great as Van de Ven can be eased in, given game time alongside Romero OR Tapsoba (as he can play both LCB and RCB) and could even cover LB.

But if we just get Van de Ven I don't think we've strengthened the backline enough.

Dier cannot stay. We have to move him on he’s honestly a huge part of the problem. Plus he has 1 year left so last chance to get a few quid for him.

Is it too much to sign Tabsoba, Tosin and VDV? Tapsoba seems like the obvious first choice and Tosin can cover both sides. VDV could cover LCB and LB which might be just as important if we ship out Perisic, Reguilon and Sess. Udogie is a real talent but we’re definitely going to need cover there and think Davies might struggle with the high intensity under Ange.

Would rather have 3 signings in the back line than any other position right now.

I reckon we could but we’d have to shift those 3, and 3 cbs. We should be doing that but gotta hope it happens.
