I’m guessing it’s either him or Tapsoba not both?

Definitely not gonna sign two players at this level with no champions league. I suspect it will be one of them to play with Romero and we’ll get a cheaper option to sit on the bench.

If Liverpool really want him they will just wait until we have a bid accepted and come in and gazump us. No Dutch CB is choosing Spurs over Liverpool/Van dijk.
He's also said it's his dream to play at Anfield. Realistically the only way we have a chance of getting him is if Liverpool decide not to. In any case, the way Romano has phrased it as him being on a shortlist implies that he's just one of many names alongside Tapsoba to be the "main" centre-back we target this window, not the priority target.

If we apologise to Liverpool for taking Clint Dempsey from them maybe they'll let us get this guy.

He's 6'4" too, absolute freak of an athlete. Looks a great ball carrier from what little I've seen, but not seen lots of passing. But again systems can dictate that. If he's comfortable enough to carry the ball out into the midfield regularly, you'd think he'd be composed enough making short passes too.

Haven't seen the guy play but a Wolfsburg supporter on another forum:

Maybe I can give some insight as a Wolfsburg supporter: He is one of the quickest players in the Bundesliga and was by far the fastest center back this season. His upper body looks like he is the captain of a rowing team.

His defensive skills are also really impressive, especially considering his age. IMO he is the kind of center back designed to deal with a next-gen striker like Haaland, since he can match his pace and physique. His biggest strength are tackles against players breaking through defensive lines. Where you usually hold your breath because you know the center back is slower and might need to risk a red card to stop the attack, Van de Ven paces past them and muscles the player or tackles the ball away in a safe manner.

Of course he hasn’t proven anything on the big stage yet, but after seeing him play in all games this season, I’m convinced he is just one of these players who is a cut above the rest and will have zero issues to establish himself in a top team. A lot of people are sleeping on him because he didn’t get much international exposition yet, but there is a reason Mino Raiola personally made sure to sign this guy playing in the Dutch second division for his agency

Also from the same person:
I’ve seen all his games this season and whoever is going to get this guy, is going to have a great CB for years to come. I’d go as far as calling him the best CB we ever had (next to Andrea Barzagli) and by far the most talented. This guy has (almost) everything. Incredible pace, incredible physique, a natural authority, great spatial awareness and sharp passes. Only thing he needs to drastically improve to make it to the top is the accuracy of his long balls, but he strikes me as the kind of player who will work his ass off to improve in the area his team wants him to improve in.
Pinch of salt but when supporters are that positive about players and still seemingly level headed (happened with Grealish, KMJ, Gvardiol for example) I've found them to be more accurate compared to most others
