Would love both but honestly with our history I think any suggestion we want both is just being used as a ploy to avoid putting either player off. I can only see us getting one, if it was both I see no reason not to have done VdV already with the agreed fee.

I feel like I’m saying this on a weekly basis now but bloody hell we need to move on this and get our CBs done.
I’m baffled by the hold up, it’s very frustrating.
The season starts 3 weeks on Sunday.

Really surprised no one else has come in for either of them.
Two top defenders going for peanuts really, in recent monetary terms.
There’s no need to arse about so much, it’s not like we’d be chucking a hundred million on players we don’t need.

I can only think that their representatives know the score and are quietly confident otherwise I'm sure there'd be rumours circulating.

Or, european clubs are broke and CB isnt as much of a priority for our premier league competitors?

Would rather VDV than Laporte personally.

We need pace at the back with ange’s system and we need younger players as we are rebuilding.

Laporte is good but does pick up
Injuries and will need big wages too.

VDV and Tapsoba is what we need

Any chance the delay may relate to Laporte?
Gvardiol finally agreed means he’s now surplus
Spurs far rather VDV than Laporte.
For a start Laporte is 29 but also VDV’s pace and potential are immense.

Most importantly we can sing the Van Der Vaart song if we sign him!!!

'Pushing the budget' for one of the richest sporting clubs in the world. It really is a sad state of affairs.
What do you think would be an appropriate annual investment into our playing squad? (Genuine question, not an assertion that you're wrong).

Signing one of Tapsoba / VDV would bring our net spend this summer to approx. £95-115m (depending which we sign). Signing both would bring our net spend to approx. £145m. That's without factoring in Kulu or Porro, who's permanent deals were intentionally pushed back into this financial year (therefore included in this year's budget, not last year's) for a reason. I would expect at least 2-3 more signings (some being "ones for the future") on top of CBs, unless Ange wants to retain more of our existing players than I anticipate, so that will add further to our net spend.

I can't see us getting anywhere close to market value for our "deadwood", as prospective buyers know we're desperate to offload them. To recoup anywhere close to our outgoings, we'd need to sell players who were regular starters last season (e.g. Hojbjerg - whos fee we'd need to reinvest in a replacement CM). I therefore think we'd be ending with a net spend of £100m+ if we sign Tapsoba & VDV.
We could have comfortably fetched £30m for Winks when back when he was playing regularly and was in the England squad, but only managed to sell him for £10m. For our remaining surplus players, I would guess:
Sanchez - worth £20-25m / likely to get £10-15m
Ndombele - worth £30-40m* / likely to get £20m
Lo Celso - worth £30-40m* / likely to get £15-20m
Reguilon - worth £15-20m / likely to get £10m
Rodon - worth £15m / likely to get £5m
Tanganga - worth £15m / likely to get £5-10m
Lloris - worth something / likely to leave on a free transfer
Perisic - worth something / only likely to leave on a free transfer (or stay)

*Both have evidenced that they can make at least as much of an impact in the Premier League as Havertz has so far, and someone just paid £65m for Havertz, so £30-40m wouldn't seem ridiculous if they managed to play well (i.e. match their form of June-Nov 2020) and avoid any negative press (i.e. accusations of Ndombele being unfit / lazy) for a few months.

Forster, Austin, Dier, Davies, Rodon, Spence, Skipp, Sessegnon, Devine, Maddison, White, Kane

Of course some of those mentioned may leave/go out on loan but I think we'll be okay for HG options fella (y)
You've missed out Tanganga & Whiteman.

Devine is too young to count as HG yet. Scarlett (eventually HG), Sarr (never HG) & Udogie (never HG) are also currently 21 so don;t count for or against our HG quota.

Dier is unfortunately only HG in Portugal, not England.

Essentially, Tanganga is our only CB of any concer when it comes to our HG quota. We can replace any of the others with a non-HG CB (e.g. VDV / Tapsoba) and there will be no net change.

I know we talk about the fees and no doubt so does Levy but he is as concerned if not more concerned with wages, I don't know what Ndombele and Lo Celso are on but we paid big fees for them so I am sure they are on high wages so shifting them should make a disproportionally big difference. I don't know that Van de Ven will earn so much.

Where do you get this figure? The fee for VdV is around £30m and Leverkusen want £40-45m for Tapsoba.

So signing 1 of VdV or Tapsoba would mean:

Vicario £16.3m
Maddison £40m
Solomon Free
VdV £30m/Tapsoba £45m
TOTAL £86.3m/£101.3m

And that’s before you take off Winks £10m, which brings the net spend down to £76.3m/£91.3m, way lower than what you said?

In fact with both of them the net spend would be £121.3m.

If we sold Sanchez and Tanganga for £10m each and Rodon for £5m that brings it down to £96.3m. Sell Hojbjerg for £30m and replace him with Gio and/or Tongee if they come good and that takes net spend down to £66.3m.

On your general question, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want the club to have a net spend of £100m considering our revenue and how much we are charged as fans.

So, adding on Porro and Kulu, we’re over £100m net? (I think they were £47m and £30m but I really don’t remember)
