Read some dodgy reports that Wolfsburg raised it to 40 mil because Liverpool were interested , then another myth that Wolfsburg wanted a bigger slice of the Kane to Bayern fee. Roll on 1st September and end this pantomime season .

Without any new centre halfs?

I’m by no means an Enic/Levy fan when it comes to build a good squad (they’re great property developers though!).

But, just as a thought:

If “everyone and their dog” know we are in dire need of CBs wouldn’t that also include the decision makers at Wolfsburg and Leverkusen?
And we all remember how we got “Levy’d” in January over the Porro deal when the goal posts where being moved constantly - by the selling club?

Could it be, that this time it is not us but them?

Initially I was all onboard the Levy Blame Train, and I haven’t jumped off it totally yet, but maybe, just maybe …?
I doubt anyone outside of the club would think that we are in dire need of CBs. On paper we've got plenty of them including a few international ones. It's really the fans who feel that we need upgrades there. So far we've sold none of our current ones so I don't think it weakens our hand at all. We've got a new manager now anyway so we can easily play it off that he can work with the ones we have. I get the sense that we're confident on this one, maybe too confident and that's why we seem to be trying our luck with changing structure or whatever.

If the "3 weeks off" point has any merit then it isn't that hard to get to Bangkok and better than joining up with the team in Oz

Maybe I’m giving the club too much credit or seem like I’m being optimistic but I do wonder if we’re waiting to see what happens with Gvardiol to City and how much it opens a door for Laporte?

If that is the case then in what order would we want Laporte, Tapsoba, VDV?

I’m a massive Laporte fan but he’s had injury problems and is a few years older than the other 2. Whereas I don’t think recall seeing the other 2 play live

I think Laporte's age, price and injury issues probably put him at the bottom of that list for me but it's a close call.

They all have their pros and cons, Laporte has experience, while VdV has youth and potential on his side and Tapsoba is probably balanced between the two in terms of age and experience.

To be honest I interpret reference to changing the structure of a deal to still be changing the fee though but these new reports seem to suggest it's the total fee.
Fwiw to me structure of a deal could also be about the amount and timing of each payment instalment (eg how much up front, how many instalments), rather than total fee. I'm sure there are other variables too.

It's still changing the fee though. Even if you pay the same end amount it makes a difference when each payment is made. If you pay 15m instead of 20m in one go it's still a change to the fee. The selling team has to account for that other 5m coming later down the line. Typically in a different financial quarter. Didn't we push back the Porro deal so it went into the next fiscal quarter for example? I imagine if you agree to how it will be paid then it must piss you off when the buyer comes back and changes it.

I want him more than Tapsoba personally, if it was a choice between the two.
For me I think Tapsoba’s calmness and range of passing make him a better partner for ultra-aggressive Romero.

Then again I didn’t particularly want Alderweireld so what the hell do I know…

I distinguished between the timing and amount of instalments and the total fee.

I haven't seen enough of either to know for sure but still think that both of them with Romero and then Dier in support would be the best of all world's at the moment.

Hard to tell from just a few YouTube compilations though...

Agree, and a lot of people in here are certain they will instantly improve our starting 11. i am not so sure and think they both will start the season on the bench. I know we all want to pick on Dier, but it is just 1 year ago almost everyone in here raved about him beeing one of the best in the league and he also got the England spot back, but then he started making a lot of mistakes, and the Conte sustem did not help him at all. Guarantee both a 22 year old VDV and Tapsoba will do a lot of mistakes as well.

Said before, i bet we start the season with Dier and Romero, and anyone we bring in, will be beded slowly in.

It's not just about whether the centre backs are good enough. It's about whether they can play this quick 1-2 touch football out from the back. I'm not sure Dier can do that, neither can Sanchez. Not sure about Tanganga and Rodon as they're still young enough to develop. Romero is the only one that has that skillet. I don't think Ange is going to start players unless he's confident they can play the way he wants. Otherwise his football pretty much breaks down from the start if the centre backs can't do it. I think he would rather start a young player who has it in him but makes the odd mistake. It's crucial he has the right fit for his style to work.

Would be the stupidest thing we could do and make any transition into team harder. Not like with attackers when you can ease them in through sub appearances. Make the change now at start of era, don’t think Ange is the guy to stick just because tradition. ( ofc this is all dependent on just how late they arrive)
