It would be great news and I hope that it happens, but Marcel Schafer, the Managing Director for Sport at Wolfsberg, has been quoted in the last twenty four hours as saying that that they have yet to receive any offers for VdV. Is this just semantics - i.e. they are discussing terms to get to a number without a formal opening bid having been made?

I think there is a lot with transfers that is just semantics. My sense is that negotiations with clubs and players usually takes place through various intermediaries who hash out most or all of the details. Then only one official bid will go through and that might be the only time one club is directly in contact with another club or a player. Sure, an officer from Club A has not submitted an official offer or had direct talks with an officer from Club B, but intermediaries have basically hashed it all out. So it can be technically true that an offer hasn't been received or no clubs have contacted the selling club but it can also be true that a deal is like 95% agreed upon. Same thing regarding dealing personal terms with a player while not technically contacting the player. I don't have any special information, but that's what I gather from reading transfer news for years.
