If there is a player watch already then please merge this but i can't find one.

What do people think of Kerian Trippier so far then?
For me he's not been given a huge amount of games and the ones he has played in have been pretty tough births such as home vs Arsenal and games against a very strong Anderlect side.

Walker has really upped his game this season and from what i've seen of Tripper so far he's been a little disappointing to be honest. His positional sense hasn't been great, he's not that physical, yes he's small but so is Philip Lahm who's the best FB in the world and he's the same height as Baines, so that's no excuse, most dissapointing of all has been his passing and play going forward as that is what we were all promised was his strength.

That having all been said he is still young and hasn't been given very many chances yet AND we all said similar things writing off Davies last year and look at his now this season he's been bloody fantastic!

So I'm not writing the guy off at all but what do people think so far?

He was impressive in pre season. Lots were calling for him to start the first game. Have been underwhelmed when he has played. It seems like he will in a way be more valuable to us if Walker gets injured and he gets a run of games than if Walker needs a rest but the main objective of actually challenging for a first team spot seems to be going the wrong way each time he plays which is not promising. On the plus side Walker being fit again (and maybe stepping up due to some percieved competition - I think more fitness and maturity though) is making it less of an issue anyway

His crosses are decent. And he doesn't do stepovers.

Honestly...I think I've seen him put in probably 2 decent crosses in his 6-7 appearance's. I don't doubt he has a good delivery it's just that he's not getting him self in the positions to put in a good cross. Defensively he's been rubbish.

As I said in the ratings thread yesterday, so far (and that's so far, so could change and I hope it does) I really haven't seen one redeeming feature to his play at all and it needs to get better. Defensively he looks suspect and I don't think he reads the game that well, with the ball he is quite sloppy and although he may be able to cross the ball he doesnt look comfortable making short passes, quick, intricate passes etc. and my main unease with him is that he seems to do everything at 100mph and have little composure to his play.

He's got work to do...

agreed. Also agree that hope this changes. I think if he gets a good run in the team in the PL this may help him.

Maybe. I can imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth on the match threads though. He's an ok, if limited player. Not a liability but will take a while to improve and who knows what his limit is then. Maybe we cut out the mistakes but that's it and this is the player we have, which I'd be fine with myself. A defensively solid FB is never a weakness.

Walker all day over him though so I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens if/when Walker gets crocked.

I thought he'd have a bit more of a mongrel in his game tbh. No idea why. No doubt just a lazy stereotyping of a norvern monkey by a soft southern poof.

Can't be judged properly until he has had a run in the side. He is better than Naughton and we got a good chunk of change in swapping him in

He hasn't looked great, but I see it in the same way as Davies last season.

He is pushing Walker on in just the same way as Davies did with Rose, this season Davies looks better also. I expect we'll see the best from Trippier next season in a similar progression.

We have to remember we are asking him to play at a higher level than he has ever played before and at a higher intensity. It will take a bit of time.

Needs run of games
That's key.

And he also absolutely must stop putting his hands behind his back when wingers are about to cross. All he's doing is putting himself off balance and leaving himself open to be turned/jinked and passed.

I love how he's no nonsense in the final third though and instinctively whips early balls into the danger zone. It puts pressure on the oppo. and helps genrate good attacking momentum.

At this rate, he might have to compete hard against Yadlin for the backup position, who's looking decent at Sunderland at the moment.

How do you give him a run of games?

He isn't showing enough to play in the PL yet and he has been playing more than any fringe player we have. He has also completed every match we have played in the cups and he has had the benefit of playing of playing 4 of those 5 games next to the starting CB pairing.

I don't know guess that's down to the manager really, the point is that he can't be judged fairly until he gets that.

It's silly to state that "he needs a run of games" because unless he starts performing in the games he does get a start in he's never going to get a run of games. He most definitely can be judged without a run of games if he continues to be unimpressive when given a chance.

Also, he has a lot to improve on and only a couple of years to do it before KWP is ready and that is going to be really difficult to do just playing the cups, but he can't be picked in the league ahead of Walker under his current showings.

Is he better than naughton? Naughton was solid, not flashy but solid. He had the occasional brainfarts as well but i think hes better than trippier
