This is a huge loss. His shot stopping is second to none. Yes he's had a few howlers this season buy he's also saved some sure-fire goals

It’s perfectly fine to say that losing Hugo is a big loss and that FF will be a fine stand in at the same time.

Those saying that Hugo hasn’t been a good/adequate captain need to give their heads a wobble. He’s been our best keeper in decades and an inspiration.

Time out.

I have an idea.

Let's all stop acting like we know what's going to happen over the next 6-8 weeks as a result of this. I personally have no idea. I can see it going either way. I don't feel a need to stake out a position so I can come back and say "I told you so".

And when Hugo comes back, we can argue over whether he would have been worth more points accumulated, or fewer. It's much easier to debate the past. You know, like transfer windows.

Shame for Hugo. He's definitely going to be a big miss.

I do howver feel FF can do a decent job in his absence. The guy is a unit and is experienced enough to do a job for us. He may not be spectacular or world class but he's good enough to get us by.

We definitely need to start searching for our next keeper either way.. But something tells me there will be no planning and we will throw random bids in the summer for a new keeper lol.

Inspiration for what? his drunk driving charges? his hardly roy keane. i respect hugo but the love in for him can border on nauseating, I mean we haven't even won anything under his captainship and his been a declining force for sometime,

I think it’s surprising how many people are writing Hugo off. It is a decline or a drop in form? He had a shocking period a few years ago and came back, and 35 isn’t that old for a keeper
dont think its necaary a right off just need a change up, and hugo doesn't have the skillset of a modern keeper, good with his feet etc, we saw how ederson and alisson transformed there clubs for example

Forster is good, I do like him, but he isnt quick so essentially we will now be playing slightly deeper. It will no doubt affect our play slightly.

Its just annoying timing - a few days ago if this happened, could have got someone in like a Navas

link with an emergency move for Foster? I really like him as a person, love his youtube videos, great behind-the-scenes looks at players during away days, like the hotels and food they have before a match.

would love to have him, and hopefully some great youtube videos of the team in training.

I see no reason for retired Ben Foster to come in and end Austin and Whiteman's careers. If Forster get injured we'll be allowed an emergency loan. But our two academy boys are in their mid 20s now. Walker and Baardsen were far younger when they got thrown into it.

I think we need to call down. Forster is capable. Lloris is having a Gomes season, which makes the defence nervous as they don’t know what he is going to do. Forster will settle us down as you know he isn’t going to be charging out of goal to play sweeper.

Lloris hasn’t shown anything this season that suggests this is going to be a huge loss.

I think we might have a different idea of inspiring. Obviously Hugo’s driving offence wasn’t his finest hour by a long stretch, but I hardly hold up Keane - who smashed Haalands leg to smithereens intentionally (and then dedicated multiple pages of his autobiography to it), criticised his own fans, walked out on his team mates days before their World Cup, was sent off on his first game as Ireland captain and was arrested multiple times (usually for scrapping) as an inspiration because he shouted a bit and won a few cups.

Hugo is without a doubt having a poor season, but we can’t write off how important he’s been for us for over a decade along with his key role for the French team (reaching 2 WC and 1 Euros final) and being a long-standing captain for them. One drink driving offence (as despicable as that is) doesn’t override the fact that he has been an inspiration - if we based inspirational footballers purely on winning things then we write off the majority of players.

I think it’s quite reasonable to try and avoid playing both Austin and Whiteman if we can. The former has played the majority of his professional football in the Danish 2nd tier and the latter was the 2nd keeper last year for a Swedish 1st division team that avoided relegation on the last day of the season.

With Lloris potentially out for 8 weeks it would make sense for me to try and find a more experienced option if possible.

It makes sense to sign an emergency back up for FF, someone with prem experience.

mum all for giving youngster a chance, but the reality is, sticking someone in without experience can damage them in the long term, especially a keeper.

it ain’t a normal position, you can’t afford a mistake unfortunately, and your team mates ain’t there to help out a mistake either, throw in crowd and game pressure, takes a ridiculously strong character alone to step up, which is why it’s a really tough position to break through in

Quite a few people have been clamouring for Hugo to be dropped, so now they have their wish.

Let's see how it plays out...

Yes there are plenty out there (myself included) who thought he might need to be taken out of the firing line (I was post City away) for a game or two, but that's by choice. I find it odd that a fairly significant injury has been met with positivity by some, he deserves better than that.

And for those treating this as good news, let's hope Forster doesn't also pick up an injury because you might be backtracking somewhat.....

The upside, as pointed out, is FF is experienced. The defenders around him will trust his approach and he will be a vocal leader. Versus Austin or Whiteman, there would be some worries about their lack of experience at this level.

We will know quite quickly against the Foxes if his presence at the back causes concerns for the defenders or puts them off.

It isn’t ideal, but I’m feeling glass half full about this situation.
He seemed nice and calm in both the Portsmouth and Preston matches, and was trusted by the defence. There is no need for anything to change in any of the other matches.
