We should just play Vorm so that the guys with fetishes for keepers being able to pass out from the back are satisfied.

Lloris does not have a very slick technique, but I think he's more than decent when it comes to playing out from the back. His pass percentage, both for short and long passes have been pretty good in all his seasons (haven't checked this year). But of course, when compared to Ederson, who is a bloody freak of nature, then he does look like utter doodoo.

Exactly this. Lloris is one of the best in the league. It's pointless comparing him Ederson who is just ridiculous. Best goalkeeper I have ever seen with his feet.

Someone reassure me please. He is just making me nervous. The distribution is just so laboured and he’s worrying me on crosses now. I know their goal was a foul but he just looks weak. I’m wondering if that’s the reason we are conceding from set pieces. Courtois just seems to come and take everything. Saw saves per shots table and he’s 10 th. I love Hugo but I’m just wondering if his confidence is a bit low he just looks flappy and unconvincing right now .

Am I the only one thinking this, but what's wrong with him this season? seems like a mistake waiting to happen at times, don't feel as confident with him in goal as years gone by

Same old Hugo I think, still a top class shot stopper and sweeper.
A bit muchness in other aspects

I don't think it was a foul yesterday. Just got outmuscled. He has weaknesses but on the whole we're lucky to have him although he was better last season

Was nothing wrong with that challenge in Bobby Smiths day, he used to put the ball and the keeper in the back of the net

Was probably a goal up to about 20 years ago. 100% foul on the keeper these days

He's still a top keeper and makes far less mistakes than most

Some very odd views on him in here

It was a foul because the rule is that you can't make any contact with the GK in that little area in front of the goal line, isn't it?

Its odd people saying that it should be a goal, keepers would be getting absolutely clattered at every corner if that was ok.

It was a foul but he was still pretty weak.on the other hand he’d probably have saved those 2 de gea let in last night. Guess it’s swings and roundabouts.i kind of hope he retires at say 33/34 and we don’t have to watch him decline like cech.

Ive never heard of such a rule, please point me to where this rule is stated. If it's a rule then it's stupid. It was a regular duel that Hugo lost too easily.

No, clattering any player is a foul. Hugo wasn't clattered.

I admire your enthusiasm but suggest you stop drinking so much coffee...

I won't start worrying about him until he starts letting in dodgey goals with Aurier, Sanchez, Toby, Jan and Rose settled in front of him. We'll concede less chances and of a far lower quality with those 5 settled in front of him so if he's still looking flappy at that point we can start to worry. Otherwise let's just assume he's had a makeshift/heavily rotated defence in front of him for the last month or two and he may be slightly out of form. He can't be exceptional all the time! Personally I think he does well to be as consistent as he is and we're spoilt!

Well, according to this article, it seems to be just a misconceptiion that the GK is anymore protected inside the goal area than the rest of the penalty area:

https://www.quora.com/Inside-the-pe...tangular-box-area-adjacent-to-the-net-enforce

But the GK is indeed protected, and any perceived charging of a player against the GK when going after the ball will usually result in foul being given in favor of the GK, and that's what happened yesterday from what I remember.

As I thought, because that would be a stupid rule. And you remember incorrectly. Please look at it again. Vokes clearly just jumps first and straight up and lloris jumps in too late. There's no infringement at all. Reuters media has a very good picture of it too but I'm not allowed to post it.

Ederson and ter Stegen are the best keepers in the world with their feet and distribution, you can't teach that. I'm more than happy with Hugo, though. He's a solid keeper, been a good servant and he's a leader, you can't teach that either.
